Rita I agree it is a waste of life and as Harry Patch said before his death why do they fight because it ends up being resolved around a table in the end
( not a quote but words similar )
I have not lost family to conflicts although my nephew is a tetraplegic from the age of 17 when he broke his neck on a tour of duty on the HMS Chatham.
but I have lost friends in the Falklands and Ireland.

Joanne I doubt that those who died in the war to give us freedom would wish us to dwell on the doom and gloom. Surely the hope they had was that after the war there would be smiles and trivia

Those who are dying now and not being hauled into a war ( as in they have voluntary enlisted ) do know that they could be killed even in what to them maybe a senseless war. I feel sure that the last thing they would want is for their loved ones to be in mourning for the rest of their lives with no trivia to lighten the day

I know what you mean Joanne, but having been in the Services myself I also know that servicemen (not too sure about service women as WRENS didnt go to sea in my day) don't dwell on the dangers and it is the 'gallows' humour and constant mickey taking that get you through the tough and frightening times

Please don't take this the wrong way as I understand exactly what you mean Joanne.

I think if we all dwelt constantly on the tragedies around us and the woes of the world we would burn out emotionally .

My life gets really tough at times and those are the occassions I need something else to divert my brain from all the stress and worries...................a bit of silliness or a good moan work wonders sometimes:)

I find it hard that all these guys are duying yet we (inc me!!) talk about trivial stuff) Its rubbish ,I Lost my grandad aged 17 yrs old Its a Waste of life .
