brightsolid acquires Friends Reunited Group
August 7th, 2009
You may have read in the news yesterday that 1911census.co.uk’s parent company, brightsolid, has bought Friends Reunited Group, which includes the Friends Reunited and Genes Reunited websites. We’re delighted to confirm that this is true.
We’re really excited by this development. In the future there will be opportunities for us to provide enhanced services for the customers of 1911census.co.uk, findmypast.com, and the Friends Reunited websites.

For now, the websites will continue to be run independently, so if you have any queries regarding accounts on Genes Reunited or Friends Reunited, please contact their Customer Support Teams as usual.

I did see somewhere that they were going to retain the individual sites for the time being.

Well if they combine membership...like Kitty I wont be able to afford it. I have Ancestry membership which I think is far and away the best value for money.

Budgie...In my case affording it means I have a limited (very) income.

I know so many of you will be absolutely distraught but combined membership would mean there would no longer be a Jean Durant on the site. Altogether now....aaawww:)

Oh well, if they do combine the lot as one membership, it will discourage the wums from taking out several paid accounts, or to join, leave after a hissy fit & rejoin again just to wum on the boards.

But then again, they may keep it as a separate concern rather than part of a huge venture with expensive subs. Keeping it separate will let people who cannot afford the more expensive subs make a start doing their tree at an affordable rate.

Maybe there will be sub stages, such as a tenner to join GR as it is, but prices going up if combined with the other sites as a package..

If they combine them all I won't renew as I can't afford yet another subscription........this and Ancestry are my absolute limit financially.

I am happy to stump up my annual £9.50 for the contacts on here, but if it increases I will be off, which is a shame as I enjoy my time on here.

Edit.............what newsletter Carol?

I was reading the news letter & did wonder if they could actually do that.

Morning Carol
I hope they will combine the lot actually - one membership covers all.

When it is all sorted, just how many memberships are we going to be paying them?

That company owns 'findmypast.com' and runs the Scotlandspeople website.

On a positive note, maybe those very cold 'Hot Matches' will be a thing of the past!
