Safe journey Mary and you too Dee. I noticed those in Mercadona - thought I was seeing things though lol! Yes the Spanish stock cubes are very salty and the Spanish flour is awful - so I use our local English food stores for those type of things and luckily enough there are 3 all in close proximity who are having a price war, so its stock up whilst they are!!!

So you are up near Benidorm/Alicante way then? Alicante airport is about 2/2.5 hrs from here and Benidorm about 3. We are flying to the UK in 4 weeks from Alicante as no cheap flights from Almeria or Murcia.

We have had our first drop of rain today - lasted about an hour and it was still hot - in fact its hot now. Mind you if the skys are clear we should be able to see the meteor shower tonight.

Wendy - I was told by a Spanish lady to use the vinegar to descale the iron too, havn't tried it yet. You can also use the steradent tablets in the toilet cistern to help keep the bowl clean of scale build up - I think its kinder for the pozo too.

take care ladies - and if you are interested I work for a local radio station and e-newspaper here, go onto www.themessengerinspain.com and the link to the radio is there too.

Off to dinner and then help the farmer gather in the almonds, bye

Lesley - we are in Oliva Costa Blanca - think it would be about 3 hours of so from you.

Dee . almost next door neighbours then - lol. I manage to get descaler from Mercadona a month or so ago but like Lesley I have used vinegar too.
We also have a Quicksave in Oliva - bit pricey but get the odd thing or two from there - like tinned corn beef, oxo cubes and granules - we find Spanish stock cubes so salty. By September hopefully it will be a little cooler - although since Sunday we have had some heavy showers and some thunder - supposed to be better tomorrow onwards - hope so as we are driving to France starting on Sunday - our first time doing this journey so praying for at least dry weather whilst driving.

Hi Lesley
We must have at least 6 Chinese bazaar shops in Oliva if not more - we often wonder how they can all make a living. But I agree if you want anything you will always find it in their shops. I too spend a lot of time just mouching and looking. Where abouts in Spain are you ? Quiet a few of us on here from Spain - we should all try and meet up and swap notes !!!

Mary, I just love those Chinese Todo shops we have 4 in the nearby town, you can spend hours in there and spend very little centimos!!! If I cannot find an item I go straight to one of them now as they seem to have the lot!!!

Hi Ann

Probably the only great thing you will see is the box containing the cards etc, if M hasn't disposed of it.

Hi Mary

It's the same here in Tenerife, there is no choice and what there is is very expensive. I have bought several odd card making bits when I have been back in the UK now I really MUST do something with them!

Wendy I decided to make my own cards since moving out here to Spain as the cards here are awful and I thought I could do a better job than that. With the aid of the computer I can make cards more personal for the person who is going to receive it. It is fun - and my next door neighbour gets me to make some for her and actually pays me for doing them.
I find it very relaxing and with the house in a mess it helps.

I have about 3 years worth of Christmas, birthday cards etc They are in a big box waiting for me to have a creative moment. So far all I have done is cut bits out to make the odd gift tag. OH, who isn't a hoarder like me, keeps saying 'if you're not going to do something with these why don't you throw them away' and I keep finding excuses no to.

Perhaps that is not the word for them - there are snowmen, Christmas trees, teddies with father Christmas hats on. Just mat and layer card then stick one of them on top - stick on a card and hey presto - Christmas card made. Should say although I have been making cards for a few years I am still an amatuar (spelling?) but do enjoy trying to be creative . make a lovely mess too !!!

just been in one of our Chinese Bazaar shops and got 3 packs of Christmas Toppers for cards. Fantastic value at 70 centimos each with enough to make 7 cards in each packet. Guess what I will be doing this afternoon ?
