We have one of those bird feeding stations on the front lawn and I think a collared dove has decided the feeding bowl might make a suitable nest site,

He was sitting in there with his neck puffed up shouting "United" the other day and one,I don't knpw if it was him,was trying it for size this morning.

We used to have a lot of swallows, but this year have seen only one or two for a short time. Have only seen a wren twice this year too.

No,there are not many swifts anywhere this year.

They were certainly young swallows on the wires this morning.

We had adult swallows,they were all gathered together on the wires last week and now they are not around here.

I don't know where they went or why but I only see martins soaring about here now.
We probably get our swallows before anybody else.Do they come from a different part of Africa?I don't know.

At my old home, the swallows would gather on the roof of the old barn, and September 28 every year , just before sun up the sound of their excited pips and squeaks was like a football crowd.
Then they were completely silent for a few minutes and thousands of them would take off together, as one , fly 3 circuits of the village and head off for Dover.
Now this year I counted maybe a dozen birds nesting.

As far as I know the adults are gone.The wires were full of them last week.
There are some martins but not a swift to be seen.

I'm on the south coast,Pagham Harbour.

I have just been outside photographing 'my' hedgehogs, seem to be three maybe a family as a big one, a medium one and a small one, the latter is fearless and doesn't scarper when I step out to take pics. I tried to do a mini video but there wasn't enough light, you could hear the snuffles of the baby one tho as it tucked into dog food and moistened bread which they love, sometimes they get bits of cheese too and that goes so fast lol

Hope you can get some pics of your swallows Sharron, we have some round here I think, have seen them flying about.

Ar'nt you lucky to see them so close. Did you get the camera out? You could flog the photo to the local paper.

I have the computer in the upstairs front bedroom and the electricity and phone wires are at eye level just outside the window.

The baby swallows are gathering on the wires with their 'aunty'who will accompany them to go off to Africa.
Tiny little things,such a long way.
