Hi

Maybe the person in the tree isn't a close relative of yours and just happens to be someone with the same name, dob etc. I had a boyfriend and it turned out there was another guy with the same name, dob and born in the same city! it only came to light when he was applying for a mortgage and they said he had bad credit when he didn't.

Hi Mary, sorry but I only just came on and saw your message to me.
I have been a little lax on the threads these days.
I do that sometimes.
Do try talking to GR.

Hi there, Not sure if this is what has happened but my tree and contact info would also show up with 2 different names ( apologies to anyone it has confused ). the reason being that my daughter initially joined the sight as part of a school assignment then when it was completed I took the tree over ( hence the two different names ).I have changed the details to mine but sometimes I seem to receive messages addressed to her name still .....and the rest as they say is history!

I have often pmd a person known to me on here and seen yet another name to the one I know, or which shows up on their pm, so I think it is just a quirk of the way things work here. Nothing to worry about but sometimes gives a clue to their family names, i.e. sometimes a woman's married surname shows up and other times her maiden name.

Hope you get a reply soon, I got a response, albeit negative, from someone I had contacted last November lol

Hi Deanna

Thanks for replying. No I haven't yet, I thought I'd give him a little time to reply first. If he doesn't then I will ask GR to remove my brother from this person's tree, he isn't related to my brother in anyway.

I do know all of my own family VERY well, we're very close LOL.

Hi Shirley,

I know, I've had to do that too, frustrating isn't it!........especially when the contact is about some search you've done about 3 months (or more!) ago!! LOL.

Slightly off tangent but i find it frustrating to get a PM with info that i cant equate to any thread, Doing a search of my threads doesnt find it because the board name differs form the senders name. I have had to go back sometimes and say enlighten me cos i dont know who you are talking about.!!

Have you tried asking GR for help?
After all, the site is designed for us to help eachother.

I must say that I have noticed this too and found it rather odd.

In your inbox a user will be shown with one name but in the sent items box a completely different name. As you say one is usually a female users maiden name and the other their married name. Why GR should do this I've no idea and I can see no reason for a male to have two names on here.

Mark.

Hi Bernie, Hi Janet

Thanks for your replies.

Yes, I thought that perhaps he could be on holiday so will wait for a while before sending another message. :-))

Yes of course Janet......I didn't think of that. But it still doesn't make sense why he would have my brother in his tree?? He doesn't have any other members of my family in there, just my brother for some reason!

Oh well, until or unless he replies I guess I'll never know.

It could be that he is known by another name, perhaps he took a stepfathers name or adopted by stepfather?

Hi Mary,

It may be that the guy is using someone else's or a shared computer and EMail addy, which would explain the discrepancy. As for the lack of reply, he may be on holiday.

I have had similar things happen, seen an ancestor of mine duplicated on someone's tree, contacted them and heard nothing. Thats the way it goes sometimes. We do not have copyright on people from the past, they are other people's ancestors as well as our own
and if they don't want to share information you just have to accept the fact.

Hi

I have found someone on here who has one of my close relatives in his tree.......I have sent a message to this person, but not had a reply so far.

The tree owner is male and when I clicked on his name to send a message it showed his name, but in my sent messages list it shows him with a totally different surname.......any ideas of why this would be??

Obviously if it were a female I would assume it was showing both maiden and married names,........ but this is a male.
