Just Jean, that is what I do not mind doing, but it is actually getting a book-case of any sort.

Buy a wood one and paint it then distress it, works very well...

Ann, no I havn't. Think our nearest Homebase is about 12 miles awat in Nottingham. Don't think there is one in Derby, but I will hunt around. Thought the hardest part of this was deciding to get rid of the chair

I do all my reading in bed at night, and have piles of books on a chair at the side of the bed. I thought I would get rid of the chair, and have a little white/cream bookcase instead, to make the room look tidier. I only want one about three shelves in height. Can I find one, can I heck. Only had a cursory look in B&Q, but have looked in the Argos catalogue and visited a shop called Dun Elm all to no avail. My only hope is that next week I am going to a nearby town that has a couple of good charity shops that I can look in. I never thought it would be so difficult.

Edit for an update
Finally got to Ikea this morning, and after traipsing all the way round and practically at the exit, I found th range of bookcases, Billy, as suggested on here. Was just about to go down the racking to get a flat pack box, when they closed it off for some reason or other. OH said now he knew which one it was, he would go down in the week to get one. It was £40.
Travelled back a few miles to do my M******s shopping, and lo and behold, walking down the Household aisle when I came across the identical book case at £12. That soon went into the trolly. Now all I need is for OH to assemble it, and take the chair I want to get rid of to the Refuse Amenity site about a mile down the road. Thanks to you all, for your suggestions
