Thanks Stevie, I will have a go at it later when I have more time, and it is a little quieter here.

Hi Julia,
There should be either a tool bar, or menu with options you can choose from.
I suppose the layout of these will depend upon which version you have installed. Not having it myself, I don't know what any of them look like. lol :o))

I found these instruction posted today on the Yahoo Answers website for someone asking the same question;

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is done through Yahoo Messenger.

Logon to Messenger.

Click on Messenger from the Menu, then Preferences.

Then click Alerts & Sounds, then click Enable alert sounds & select "I receive a message in Yahoo! Mail",

Then click Play a sound & select the sound file you like, then click OK.

Make sure Messenger is running and you will get a sound alert when you receive an email :)

Steve.

I use Windows Live Messenger. That sends me a visual & sound alert when I receive an e-mail.

Although I we don't use the same system Julia. There should be something in the Options for Alerts.

SHRat, no, I have not changed my e-mail address. Don't know how, even if I wanted to.
Thanks

Pauline, I wondered if I could send one to myself. So I just tried, and nothing happened.

Thanks Steve, I have done that, so will wait to 'see' if I get an e-mail this afternoon, to tell if it has worked. The slider bar was about half way up, so I pushed it to the top.
Many thank

Hi Julia,
It could be that your sound setting has been set to zero.

At the bottom right of your screen, there should be a little white speaker icon.
Click on this & this will show a slide bar for overall sound setting. You can adjust the slider with your mouse.

Also if the speaker icon at the bottom of the slider has a little red circle next to it......Then the sound has been muted. Click on it to turn the sound back on.

There should be another feature at the bottom of the slider. This'll say "Mixer"..........Click on this & you can check & adjust individual sound settings.

Regards,
Steve.

When I first had my lap top, about 2 1/2 years ago, if I was on the boards, it would make a little noise when an e-mail had been sent to me. Now it does not make the noise, and I have to click onto e-mails to see if any have arrived quite often ,during the day. This is abit infuriating, as I am probably busy reading someones thread.
Has anybody got any idiot proof, non technilcal answers of how to get me noise back please.
Many thanks
