Teresa

Teresa Report 17 Aug 2009 16:39

did you find any other record of her?

Fiona

Fiona Report 17 Aug 2009 16:38

Remember ancestors sometimes did not give the true age on certificates, it then makes it harder to find the right birth year.

as I said she always said she was bought up by the nuns as she was left at a convent and adopted out. I dont think even she knew 100%, but my family always said the convent told them she was left bys ome romany gypsies camped outside as they left during the night Helen was left at the convent, via the hole in the wall. We presume as she was adopted in the kent area, she was from that region of the uk

Not sure about this one. I have even checked all birth records and the only one I could find for that year was an Ella or Ellen, but she died at 2 yrs old.

Teresa

Teresa Report 17 Aug 2009 16:33

her age was 22 years. Address then was Snowdon buildings, Fishponds Bristol. It is annoying, thats why I need someone elses brain.

Fiona

Fiona Report 17 Aug 2009 16:31

was Helen her birth name or was it changed by her adopted parents if so that may be the reason you can't find her birth ?

How irritating! :-)

Does it give her age? (then I could look on the 1901 census).

Teresa

Teresa Report 17 Aug 2009 16:27

no mother/father at all. There were 2 witnessess to the mariage, one being Samuel Monks, and the other signed by her name on the certificate, was a William H Harding. I dont know who he was but the other was the father of Gordon.

Is her father's name given on the certificate?

Teresa

Teresa Report 17 Aug 2009 15:58

ok here goes. Her name was Helen Chainey, and wedding was 6 Feb 1921 in Bristol to a Gordon Albert Monks. She was adopted by a family in Kent area, and given back to the convent when she was older for unknown reasons. I cannot find any birth records. Please can anyone help or give me some tips

Can you give details, please, of the marriage certificate so that we can try to help?

Hi there. I have been trying to trace my g grandmothers birth but it seems there is no record of her anywhere. I have her wedding cert, so am sure of the timescale. My dad said she was a hole in the wall baby, given to a convent, at the turn of the last century. People would place an unwanted child in the wall and it would be turned so it went into the convent. Would they have kept records of this?ok here goes.
