Driving down the A1 last Thursday morning I stopped at Grantham services about 11am to use the toilet. In came two policemen wearing full body protection and carrying automatic rifles over their shoulders. Returning to the car I noticed, in the far corner of the car park, a large dark blue van (I assume a police van) with a police patrol car parked in front of it and a police Range Rover positioned behind it. A few yards from the van (both at the front and rear of the van) there was a policeman on guard with full body protection holding what looked like automatic rifles. These two policemen were holding their rifles in a guarding manner rather than simply slung over their shoulder. There were other, City of Westminster police, patrol cars nearby and at least three other policemen with automatic rifles.

I thought it strange that such a heavily armed convoy would stop at a service station. But what I am more curious about is who would warrant that level of security?

Any ideas?

No doubt they were moving top security prisoners, but who would warrent such a high level of security?

possibly a murderer or someone criminally insane that would be a danger to public could be terrorists

Somewhat disconcerting to see what info is on there. Should it be available to the public?

As you say, should this kind of info be made available to the public.

However, there was nothing there to say who the police were escorting & guarding. To see so many policemen with automatic rifles, I just couldn't think who would warrent that level of level of security.

I guess we'll never know !

Hawthorn, my OH travels up and down the motorway quite bit, and regularly sees things that make you wonder. Very often sees convoys, and rolling road blocks. Also large security vans with outriders flanking the sides and at the front and rear.
