I was appalled at the number of young Mums we saw marching their children across the road while the red man was still showing. OK, as adults we know that if the traffic lights go red then the traffic will stop then the green man lights up. But, on a busy main road to ignore the red man and cross seemed very dangerous to me. What if the child (and these were all under 10) decided to do the same when on their own? There was us waiting for the green man so as to set an example and Mothers dragging their children across.

I agree Ann it is indeed appalling . When mine where all little I used to explain the whole "green man / red man " thing to my lot at every opportunity , I never nip across the road if someone with little children is waiting ( as you say , to set the right example ).

I always wait till green man when I have kids with me.
Most times I wait even if there are others there with kids but sometimes if I am in a rush I just go and expect the parents to tell their how bad I am lol.

Another thing is the amount of people with prams who stick the pram out on the road while they wait rather than put it to the side a bit.

Hi everyone
I am also shocked at the amount of people not just mums, even grandparents and I know a few in my town as I used to work in one of the local children's nurseries for 4 years, these grandparents also just waltz out on to the crossing dragging the children behind when the red man is alight
We teachers at the nursery made a really big thing about road safety at work with the 2 1/2-5 year olds and we would stand with them when we went out on walks pointing and repeating instructions.

It really scares me to see someone pushing the buggy first into the road these children and babies are in direct line of the incomming traffic, everyone is in such a hurry to get from A to B these days.

Marion, that was what l was going to say, really does annoy me when l'm driving and the pram/ pushchair is over lapping the pavement and going into the road Arrrrr.
My other gripe is..............driving along and a mother is in her car with young children in the back and shes on the phone, there was one in front of me the other day doing just that and when we had both parked up l said to her.......... oh you don't care for your children then, she looked at me like l was mad ( which my oh says l am, lol) and l said to her how have you got controll of your car with one hand, can't say what her reply was, f**** *******@@@@*****, wonder if she still does it.

Mummo ....................... It must have been the same woman I saw on Monday in Chester. She had 2 small children in her 4x4 and was using her mobile and trying to navigate 3 sets of traffic lights. I'm not as brave as you though as much as I would like to have said something to her she turned off in a different direction and also I don't like confrontations. Some people just don't realise how precious children are.

And apparently, if the newspaper is to be believed they also send texts while at the wheel. How can they possible control the car?

Annie, can understand you not confronting the man, so donot beat yourself up about it lets just hope the child was ok .
What l do , l have a pen and a small notebook in my drivers side door and always handy for writing down a number plate.

Annie, I am sure there was nothing you could have done. Wonder what the child had done??? Hopefully his father will have calmed down by the time he got home.

Ann

I hate that even when I go out without my children I always wait for the green man, as I alway's have at the back of my mind if a child followed me I could never live with myself.

And i must admit I have had a go at a few people who has done that and once a child did follow a person and he was lucky he never got run over I did say a few bad words to the person who crossed the road without waiting

I was in a larger Tesco in another town, ours is not that big, and was at the ckeck-out with OH behind, emptying the trolly when I heard a baby crying. I looked up, and it was a brand new baby a couple of check-outs further down. It was fitted in the proper seat, but the mother was busy talking on a mobile phone whilst the baby was crying it's little heart out. She obviously thought her phone call was more important than attending to the baby. I turned around and remarked to OH about it, The equally young mother behind OH gave me a dirty look. Perhaps some young mothers don't think their children come first. Poor little sausage was just left to whale his little heart out. It went right through me.
