Muffy, if you allow them to have a television in there rooms you must only allow certain times when they can have it on..........we all need time alone wether your young or old, not just to watch t.v but space to do what you want, most nights l go up at 9 pm as l like to read and l think if you give your girls a bit of trust they will
not abuse it, please allow them a bit of me time, x
PS use the dinner table to have a good talk about the days events.x

From a *voice in the wilderness*

Hello Muffy my children all had TV by the age of 7yrs...always brought on request with videos and then later DVDs, and always for xmas, at the time I thought this was a great idea, they could watch what the like and I could watch what I like in peace, with out any, " what was he in before" or " is that her out of whats it" even we had a TV in our room...... it spoilt our family closeness I think, after tea each would disappear in to their rooms and that was that, I had ours removed from our room in the end, it made us unsocialable as a family, the kids still have their TV's ..... I now wish we could all sit as a family and share just the one TV.....:((((

When mine were older I found I could - to an extent determine how they would turn out by the programmes I let them watch!!
So no TV's in bedrooms even when they were in senior school

Mine (okay they're in their late 20's now) never had TV's in their rooms.
If it's children's TV it's on downstairs. If it's adult TV they sould be in bed!!
Seven year old grand daughter isn't even allowed to take her DS to bed!!

I have up til now refused to allow my two (aged 6 and almost 9) to have televisions in their rooms....

Of course now eldest has clocked her friend having one.......I'm under pressure.

What are your experiences of letting them have one in their rooms....and at what age did you first allow it.?

I took the stance that I'd prefer them to be downstairs watching TV with us as a family rather than sloping off to their rooms separately.......I DO think 9 yr old may be ready to use it responsibly but not the younger one.......it'd make her more hyper than she already is.

Just interested to hear and learn of others experiences...........ta xx
