went to see a *time team* type dig in action...was really really interesting..........HOWEVER.........

When the volunteers were pulling *finds* out of the trenches I had to keep doing a double take......tbh I'd have thrown it in the *junk* pile .......just as well I'm not a volunteer I guess.........BUT one of the volunteers was a teacher from the girl's school.......and they had found either a coin that was from the time of Queen Mary.........or her sister Queen Elizabeth the first.........it was being investigated whilst we were there...I'd recommend it to anyone for a really interesting afternoon out if you get the chance x

how fab. I wanted to be an archaeologist but wasn't allowed the chance. I did do a week on a dig in the City when I was about 16 though - fantastic :-))
one day, when the kids are older, if I'm still able, I'd like to get more involved in one as a volunteer.

ps you were better off where you were than in front of Sky Sports!!

I'm on the lookout for digs in my area. Not much in the way of Roman in Norwich itself, and despite Norfolk being Iceni land, there wasn't a bronze-age settlement here either, all a few miles away. But there is always plenty of medieval history here.

Did you know Norwich is hoping to become a City of Culture, because it is absolutely steeped in history?

They pulled down the office where I used to work when the new ones went up on the outskirts, and because it was so close to the cathedral, they did a dig on the land before building houses. I missed that because of my hip, and I don't know of any results, but inside the old city walls, most sites are open for a year or so before building begins....tell tale sign of archaeology methinks..
