WOW!
Guys I can't thank you all enough!
My Dad's side of the family has proven problematic as we don't know who his biological father is (he was born out of wedlock - quite the scandal!) so any information on his side of my family is really appreciated !
Thanks again !

Not sure if you have the parents marriage Elizabeth;
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Sep 1892 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Botting John Edward J E. Preston 2b 647 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>COOK Kate Alice E. Preston 2b 647 Kempsell Edwin East Preston 2b 647 RUSSELL Louisa E. Preston 2b 647
I couldn't see any further baptisms for any of the other children....... but at least we know which John it was now.
Are you using freebmd? This is a great free site that has births, deaths and marriages from 1837 running upto about 1930 (they are constantly adding to this).......... if you're not using it give it a go and have a play.

Hi,
births should have been registered after 1875, I dont think it cost to register a birth.......... however there were penalties to pay if it was found that a birth wasn't registered.
Do you want to give us the census for 1891/1901 and see if we can find anything regarding a birth registration?

Hi all,
Just a question! Would there be any reason why births wouldn't be registered around the 1880's/1890's? I have managed to find my great grandmother and her family in the 1901 census (she was around 2 at this time) but I can not find any of the children actually registered? I have gone back through the records and nothing!
Did it cost a lot of money to register children then?
Thanks
