Is there anyone that lives in temple sowerby who would know the name of the vicar from st james church. My gg grandparents are buried in temple sowerby according to the records at kendal. It dosnt actually say the name of the church, but I think there is only st james there. I sent a letter to the church more than twelve months ago asking if they knew whether they were buried in the graveyard there but never got a reply even though I put in a sae. Since then I have written to the deanery at appleby asking for the information and the reverand said to give him a couple of days and he would look through the records at the church. When i hadnt heard after a couple of weeks I e-mailed again and still havnt had a reply, so I think if I could find out the vicars name of the church maybe I could e-mail him.Im going to westmorland in december and would have liked to have found out if they were buried in that churchyard before then.I cant think of any other way
how to find the info out. Any ideas please. regards maureen

Ther parish records will probaby be held at the Records Office for that area. If you know when they died, you could contact the Records Office and ask if they are willing to do a look up for you.

Or you could post a request on the Records Office board and see if anyone is visiting who would be willing to do a look up.

The website is

http://www.achurchnearyou.com/temple-sowerby-st-james/

There are no contact details on there, it refers you to the diocesan website

http://www.carlislediocese.org.uk/

Some other websites I found while digging around were

http://www.visitcumbria.com/churches/templesowerby.htm
gives views of the church

When you search the IGI and Genuki, the church is actually listed under Westmorland not Cumbria

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/WES/#Cemeteries is the Genuki page and if you scroll down to church records, there are various links which may help

Some monumental inscriptions are on

http://www.northofthesands.org.uk/westmoreland/
