And I apologise for putting this on here and on Tips but I would like a good cross section of replies and not everyone reads Tips

I already have a subscription with ancestry but Find my Past has an offer of 20% off at the moment. For 12 months it works out £119.95 Would I get good value for money for that, given that I am on Ancestry? It includes access to 1911 census which I have not accessed as yet.

Hi Ann,
Personally I think £!20 is a lot of money as you already have Ancestry.
My thought would be to buy some credits for 1911 census.
I have the premium acct on Ancestry and have found the Marriages and banns from 1754 for London very interesting and am hoping they will extend this to other areas. It's worth looking to see what's new on a regular basis.
Now if they did the Southern Ireland parishes on FMP I wouldn't hesitate!!
some hope!

PS...I have this week contacted another 2nd cousin on the Ancestry members trees. She's only just started her "journey" and she think that Christmas has come early with all the info and photos I have sent her.At least I made someone happy!

Hi Ann

I already have Ancestry and have just bought 6 months subs to 1911 via FMP and find this enough for what I need. I suppose that it also depends on which Ancestry subscription you have

Hi

I had the same email but already have ancestry. I'm going to get the 6 months sub for 1911 & then review - by which time my ancestry will be up for renewal !

Thank you.

I think I am going to upgrade my ancestry from the basic to premium and take a 6 month sub to 1911. That should cover what I want.

With ANCESTRY you have the whole world, but a lot less with the other site.
Although you do have the opportunity to search for people in the Forces, but I am happy to pay for separate searches when I need to.

Hi Ann ,
We are like you and a lot of others we have had ancestry for years and now don't know whether to take advantage of FMP as well.
I started out on FMP first off then changed to ancestry . It's the 1911 census thats calling us though isn't it?

Difficult isn't it?

I think I'm tempted to try the six month Find My Past one - I didn't renew my Ancestry subscription in May and naturally I've found a lot of things I need to follow up since! Just need to find some money from somewhere!

I'm wondering if they'll have an offer on round Christmas - I searched around today and noticed they had one in late December 2008/early January 2009, so maybe this year . . .

Updated to add - the main reason I was put off renewing my Ancestry subscription this year was, since they reorganised the site I found it so much more awkward to do simple searches, and it felt like everything was organised to make it impossible to get to, like playing pass the parcel!

I couldn't do without Ancestry - wonderful site imo. I got so much work done with the 1911 when we had the back door thing where we could get all the transcription details that I don't think it's worth me getting a sub, not that I could afford it at the moment lol

I get the general opinion that Ancestry is better than FMP so, as I said, I think an upgrade in Ancestry plus a subscription to the 1911 in FMP will be the best and also the cheapest option. Thanks all for you help.

Uggers, I agree that Ancestry is very good and, although it seems expensive it isn't when you break it down to number of weeks/searches is it?
