Hello Mummo. I was thinking about you and Eddie the other day and wondering how you were getting on. Isn't it amazing how life can change in a split second.

I hope things continue to get better and that you get everything sorted out and have all that you are entitled to. Take care.

I am glad you are finally getting the help that you should have got ages ago. it is really bad that nobody was able to help you. Worrying about Ed was enough without all the extra worry about money.

It will take a while for Ed to fully accept that he is now disabled but I am sure the help he is getting will lift his spirits and I hope that you get the flat soon. With DLA you will get a blue badge too wont you which will be a help.

It is good to know that the rehabilitation nurse has given you the information you need. The hydrotherapy sounds like a good idea and I do hope Eddie feels the benefit soon. Things will be much better for you both with no stairs.

Keeping you both in my prayers.

Hello Mummo......Happy Easter to you and Eddie x

I'm sorry to read here that the CAB where no help to you, they really ought to have been able to point you in the right direction for the various departments you needed for help , normally they are good at that type of thing . But at least it sounds as if you will start to get things sorted out now the rehabilitation nurse has helped . Hopefully you might get any money he is entitled to back payed ?
I expect the thought of having to move is a bit daunting but it will be for the best in the long run I'm sure .Everything on one level will be so much better for the pair of you .
It is no easy thing to adjust to being disabled , letting go of who you used to be and excepting who you now are can take a long time : (
Love to you both

I am glad that things are beginning to be sorted out. It is crazy that you have not been given the help when you actually needed it. I hope that your housing gets sorted out as soon as possible to make life easier for you.

Hydro therapy sounds like it will be a good help. The full time rehabilitation would probably be good, but given all he has been through,i can see why he didn't want to take it up.

" Happy Easter everyone"
Just updating this thread as quite a few things have been happening.

Eddie now has a rehabilatation nurse coming out twice a week and has been a great help in showing him different things so he can help himself more and been teaching him how to use the wheelchair properly.
He has also had the physio coming in twice a week also but unfortunately ever time he does his excercises his back goes into spasms and he is in a great deal of pain when that happens, last week they offered him a place in a rehab centre for up to 6weeks ( this should have been offered when he first came out of hospital in January, tsk, ) well we spoke about it and Eddie said he didn't want to go away again and got quite upset about it so we declined the offer. they have now decided to give him hydrotherapy as they are hoping this will be of greater benefit to him.
We have been told that he is always going to have trouble now and as he still cannot climb the stairs our local council have now told us that the first available flat with a wet room and all on one level will be ours so looks like will be moving soon.
We have now been told of the right departments to claim what Ed is intitled to and Eddie's firm will not hold his job indefintely so have now had to claim disability living allowance.
I did go to C.A.B. ages ago to see what we were intitled to but they were no help at all, just gave me a leaflet and said ring those numbers..........sorry no good at all, it was only thanks to the rehabilatation nurse that got all the right phone numbers and helped us with the council that things are now started to move. (just couldn't live on £79 a week S.S.P)
Ed in himself is not to bad , he has good and bad days and has now excepted his life has changed and just thankful he came out of this alive.
Again many thanks for the good wishes we have received and Rach a big thankyou to you, x

I am sorry that Eddie has had a set back, but at least he is going to get his Physio now, I can't believe that the Occupational Therapists have not been out to asses your home. Here they do that first before anyone is allowed home. They have all sorts of gadgets to make life easier .
I hope that you start getting the help you both deserve.

Jane Report 1 Mar 2010 21:37

Mummo,I think you have grounds for making a complaint .The fact that you have had no input from OT physio and no visit from Dr after Eddies fall. You have been left on your own for all these weeks .(there I have said my bit lol)
I bet Eddie felt a bit cream crackered after seeing the Physio today.
You will get there in the end!!!
