Dear All

Hello

I meant to put this on a few days ago.

On 6 December 1988, American singer Roy Orbison passed away after severe ill-health.

Mr Orbison, songwriter and musican was well known for his distinctive voice. His greatest success was in the early 1960s where 22 of his songs were placed on the Top Forty, including "Only the Lonely", "Crying", "In Dreams", and
"Oh, Pretty Woman".

A gentle and quiet man, he lost his first wife and children in separate accidents.

Early in 1988, his career resurged. He joined the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne and released an album in 1988.

Thank you Mr Orbison for the music and the memories.

Take care all

Very sincere wishes
xx

Oh Elizabeth, yes I remember Roy Orbison, always loved his voice and his music and loved the Travelling Wilburys, I like Drove all night.
Strange to think he would be in his early 70's now if still alive.

Many memories returned to me with this thread! As you said Elizabeth, Thanks Roy, for the music.

My ex-boyfriend was a great Orbison fan.
At his funeral we took him in to "You're the Only One".
You know how you don't quite know what to do with your emotions at the end of a cremation service? Well, we were the same until we heard "It's Over" come out of the speakers.

We knew exactly what to do with our emotions then alright!
Gallons of emotions.

I was never a great fan of Roy - until my daughter heard the Travelling Wilberries. Then, aged about 16 - that'll be in the '90's fell in love with his music.
He really was a master!

Hi Elizabeth,

I remember going to a Roy Orbison concert at Festival Hall,Melbourne, way back in 1967 ,it was brilliant! He sang all the favourite songs, and didn't appear to have any microphones,or anything to amplify his incredible voice. His voice reached every corner of that hall,it was just amazing. This great voice came out of his pretty much stationary body-unlike many other performers,he didn't move around much, which struck me as rather odd at the time.

My favourite songs of his are Lana,Claudette,I'm Crying,In Dreams,(snap,Tony),Working For The Man,etc.I don't like Leah very much.

As you say,Elizabeth,he was a great talent, and gave, and still gives,a lot of pleasure to many people through his music.

Best wishes,

Margot.

Dear Maggie, Tony and Margot

Hello

I gave this post a gentle nudge because I knew someone liked Roy Orbison.

Thank you for posting your thoughts and memories.
Its great to read them.

EDIT:

On 29 January 2010, Roy Orbison was given a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star. This was accepted by his widow Barbara.

The ceremony was attended by Eric Idle, Chris Isaak and Dan Aykroyd.

Aykroyd paid tribute to Orbison, describing him as a great balladeer and rock'n'roller.

Mr Orbison died of a heart attack in 1988, aged 52. His hits include Only the Lonely, Oh, Pretty Woman and Crying.

In later life, he joined The Traveling Wilburys - their greatest hits album was number one in the UK in 2007. The band formed in 1988 and produced two albums.

The single "You got it" was released after his death and reached number 3 in the UK charts.

Take care
Very best wishes
xx
