CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 23 Dec 2009 22:10

Sorry haven't replied...got a little busy last few days.

Gunter is norman....oldest know..well oldest I know....

Sir Peter Gaunt d'Or......corrupted to Gunter...born c1034.
He had a son Peter..and he had a son William...all Knights.

Peter invaded Wales and for his services was given lands in the Brecons.
The family seat for 500+ years was Tregunter..formally Gunterstone.

Gunter basically .means ..War like..my great grandmother ( mothers side) was Minnie Matilda May Gunter b.1899
I have Minnie's line all the way back to Sir Peter

Meatyard means "small garden"..probably walled..my great great great grandmother (fathers side) was Catherine Meatyard

Cheers PigletsPal for your reply.

I was wondering what kind of info these books contain.
Thye claim to have info from thousands of records regarding certain surnames.

I am interested in the Gunter & Meatyard surnames.
I have the Gunter line back to 1035...but not alot on the Meatyard name.
So was wondering if these books might be of use.

Hi All,
Anyone ever brought a history of a name book from Ancestry?
If so..any good?...are they worth the purchase.?
Thinking of buying a couple and was wondering if the info in them is worth it.

Cheers!
Paul
