Any suggestions on how to go about this? I've recently found a relitive ( not seen for 33years), Not even sure she knows about me! What should I say not to scare her off?

Do you mean you have located her on here? It depends on the reason you have not seen her really. If there is some sort of family split you will need to be more sensitive about it. If you have just lost touch (I am assuming it is a distant relative not a close one like Mother/sister), you can send a PM and say Do you remember me? But we really need to know a bit more to give more help I think. Good luck anyway Paul.

If it 's a case of losing touch over the years because you aren't direct rellies, maybe you are 2nd or 3rd cousins or something like that, then I think you'll have to be sure to give a bit of background info in your letter. Otherwise she might not realise where your family link is. Like Margaret said, keep it simple so as not to confuse, especially if she's not clued up on the family.
What I mean is - try to be a bit more specific than the message I received last week which didn't even start off with a Dear Karen...it just said "Did Jane S******* marry Horace P***". Honestly!!

On the other hand, if it were me for example, I'd love a distant rellie to get in touch with me, after 33 years or 133 years - it wouldn't matter!!!!!

And if she is clued up on the family, and/or a member on here who is doing her family tree, then she'll know you exist anyway!!

Good luck.
