I understand a lot of people aren't bothered about it for themselves. |

I'm not overly concerned about it. The important stuff like bank details, credit card numbers and so on is hidden as best as I can, and Inever throw bank statements in the bin, (my drawer is full of the wretched things lol), not even shredded. |

One of the boring aspects of my family tree is that I have not unearthed any skeletons there fore I don't think there is anything on record to hurt my family. I can see what you are saying though Janey and some people might have a potential problem. For myself, like TW I take all precautions I can re bank details etc I am sure that somewhere there is a loophole to be discovered by somebody but I will deal with that if it happens. I don't publish photos of my grandchildren on web sites etc and don't disclose any personal details about them on here. I am satisfied that I have done all I can so don't intend to worry overmuch about it. Life is too short. |

Ann, I don't even put up birthday wishes for them on here. Firstly because it would be futile, my girls are not members and have no interest in the internet yet, let alone a genealogy site, and secondly becuase I dont' like naming them. Age, birthdate and name is all some people need to find them, so to me that puts them at risk. |

No I only put my own and sometimes other half's birthday on here. I don't see the point in putting up birthdays of people who wont read them. I think there may have been a thread for eldest Grandson's 21st but I don't think I put it up myself and it didn't have his name on it. |

It doesnt bother me to a point, dont use my Mothers maiden name for security or anything like OH and I have a password the same one for everything. My records have been available for years, but due to who I work for some things have been removed as it has to be not by my choice. |

You have the same password for everything Hayley? That's a bit risky isn't it? |

I'm not at all worried about criminals accessing my info, they're welcome to try and get anything out of my bank account:))) It's more being found by people you don't want to be found by that concerns me. |

I think protecting our privacy in all parts of our life is a key issue, however, I am surprised that some people don't seem bothered about protecting it. In fact some seem keen to relinquish any rights to their privacy which I find very odd. (not saying that they are odd by the way ;) ) |

what is interesting is that we put out all this information, and don't seem to be too worried about people finding it or us, and we as family researchers depend on being able to find that information. |
