I raised this subject a long time ago and had some good advice, thank-you. Short of retiring (early) I don't know when I can fit this in!

As a beginner, I really want to do this. Now I have been told that a friend's very young daughter is expecting a surprise baby so I would like to make something special her as I have known the would-be Mum since she was three. Any suggestions please?

Hi Helen, you have asked the right person,I have been quilting for years,be warned though, it can become as addictive as geneology.

For a first project I would suggest that you log on to E bay.

Select Crafts, and type in "cotton patchwork squares". You will be presented with a wealth of ready cut squares, in scrumptious fabrics.

I suggest you pick 21/2 or 3 in squares and keep your pattern simple for your first quilt. Bare in mind that a baby quilt will be much washed, so machine quilting and piecing is best.

Have a good time making your quilt, and if you get stuck PM me anytime, I may not be very good at geaeology, but I do know about quilting.

All the best, Nina from sheffield
Ps. I will have a look in my quilting mags to see if you have any quilting shops near you.

Thank-you for your comments, Nina, and for the address of the shop in Sheerness. This is a very long way from me, :(( , but now I know there are specialist shops I'll look for one nearer to home so thank-you anyway. And I shall definitely start with ebay!

I'll let you know how I get on.
