The death of this boy is very sad.

We will be hosting an Olympic Opening Ceremony party tonight.
So yes! I will be staying up to watch. The pre opening program coverage is starting now. The big show will start in two hours at 6pm our time.

Good luck to all the athletes, welcome to Vancouver.

For once, we can watch it in real time! So we certainly are going to be watching ...... but we're not having a party!!!!

The Georgian team is going to march in the parade of athletes to honour the boy who died (he was only 21)

and they will make reference to his death in the speeches.

It seems somewhat eeerie that the first Games that had Luge as an event was 1964 in Innsbruck ................. and a British luger (Polish-born) was killed in a practice run on the Olympic track 2 weeks before the Games opened.

Hi to everyone who has stayed up to watch the opening ceremony - i shed a tear when the Georgian team came out, hope they do their country proud. so sad about the luge athlete, so young. Good luck to Great Britain, in fact good luck to all the countries taking part.
I prefer the winter Olympics to the Summer Olympics. Does anyone know where you can purchase the red mittens with the maple leaf logo on, they seem to have run out of them. Don't know if they have any more supplies of them.
Glad that the Canadian GRs can watch it in "real time". I will be having a few late, late nights.

Enjoy Paulene x

I watched quite a bit of the ceremony, and very spectacular it was, especially those big totem poles.

I was sad for the Georgian team with their black armbands, what a sad thing to happen to their young team mate. May he rest in peace.

Fantastic ceremony ...... except for the abysmal version of the Canadian National anthem!

OH is an accomplished singer (bass baritone) and was cringing the whole way through it.

Otherwise ................... it was great.

Like everyone, I had tears in my eyes when the Georgian team came in .......... but also when the Canadians streamed in.

and what about that version of Hallelujah by K D Lang? Wasn't that great?!
