please can anyone direct me to free on line census from 1901....they all seem to be pay to view !!!

There is only the 1911, that is pay to view, but you can do a free search.

What are you after Lynda?

not aware of any that are free Lynda for the 1911 census, if you need any before that tho, I have access to Ancestry (if you haven't) so am quite happy to do a look up or few for you:)

looking for margaret hewitt and john sutton - brother and sister that were living together in ashton in makerfield in 1901 census - trying to keep tabs on them both - think I found margarets death in 1907 in nearby town of Lowton...

In a word no, the next census due for release will be the 1921, but that will not be until 2021, even then i doubt very much if it will be free.

Census records are subject to a 100 year closure rule.

In addition to what others have correctly said, the 1881 census has a free index and freecen has transcribed some areas and some census records but it is far from finished. However, they may not be what you're looking for.
