Winter is upon us
A frost in the morn
Ice forming patterns
As new shapes are born
Gleaming in the sunlight
Reflecting in its glow
Feeling the warmth
Before its time to go
Another day will come
And colder it will get
For winter is upon us Its not finished yet

Friendship

A little space in a great big world
that stretches far and wide
within that space you may find
a new friend at your side
and as we look more closely
it's not so big at all
with each friendship found
its gets increasingly small

Even though I'm well and truly fed up with this long drawn out winter I have to say your words have conjured up some of the nicer aspects of it : )

I took some photos in my greenhouse last week of the fern like ice patterns that the coldness had created.......so it's not all bad ....lol

WHEN icicles hang by the wall
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail,
And Tom bears logs into the hall,
And milk comes frozen home in pail;
When blood is nipt, and ways be foul, 5
Then nightly sings the staring owl
Tu-whoo!
Tu-whit! tu-whoo! A merry note!
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

When all around the wind doth blow, 10
And coughing drowns the parson's saw,
And birds sit brooding in the snow,
And Marian's nose looks red and raw;
When roasted crabs hiss in the bowl—
Then nightly sings the staring owl 15
Tu-whoo!
Tu-whit! tu-whoo! A merry note!
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

This is a poem I remembered from school by W. Shakespeare called Winter, when I was up at the farm every day and looked at the very old farmhouse, I could imagine the scene...

True friendship is a joyous thing,
It lives throughout the hours,
A friendless life would be so drear,
Like gardens without flowers.....

Read from a card sent to my Mum by a friend of hers, again when I was a small child....

See the pretty snowflakes
Falling from the sky;
On the wall and housetops
Soft and thick they lie.

On the window ledges,
On the branches bare;
Now how fast they gather,
Filling all the air.

Look into the garden,
Where the grass was green;
Covered by the snowflakes,
Not a blade is seen.

Now the bare black bushes
All look soft and white,
Every twig is laden,
What a pretty sight!

In a world full of troubles
A world full of lies
Secrets behind every curtain
We still seek hope
That will guide us through
Where life is never certain
In a world full of beauty
Aworld full of joy
Hope makes the world go round
For without hope
There is no joy
But sadness all around
In a world where we live
A world where we thrive
Let us pull together
Keep hope in our hearts
Joy in our lives together we can make it forever
