Help wth Gedcom export to FTM 2010 please

Hi

I have been given FTM 2010 as a gift and went to export my tree to use along side ancestry.

I am terrified to do so as it reads that once I do I will loose my tree and all relations from this site. As you all appreciate there are years of work within my tree and I d not want to risk deleting it all.

Can anyone tell me what will happen if I export my tree as a Gedcom file from this site and can it be reinstated?

Any advice/help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Rae

If you export a Gedcom fil, it is sent as an attachment to your email address. Nothing happens to your original tree. If you import a file then you will overwrite the existing tree. You should, as good practise, backup up your tree file somewhere other than your computer, perhaps a USB stick..

Dear Andy

Thanks very much fo the reply. I have done it!- bit the bullet and clicked :)

All good, so I can now work on my tree and then when I re-import it it will all be nicely updated.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, it is very much appreciated.

Kindest regards
Rae
