Usually it's the person's age they put on the death cert.

After around 1970, the place of birth was entered but not the date of birth; as said, the age is given (to the best knowledge of the informant).

Date of birth has been added to death certificates since 1969.

Sometimes the informant's information is not correct. Sometimes the day and month are correct, but the year is wrong.

If you are looking for a record of his birth to order his cert, and are having difficulties, put what you do know, ie full name, where born , parents if you know, on here and I'm sure someone will help.

I received a death certificate today for October 1888, my great great grand father. Info on it is as follows :-

When and Where died
Name and Surname
Sex
Age
Occupation
Cause of death
Signature, description & residence of the informant
When registered
Signature of registrar.

All it told me that I didn't already know was that the death was notified by his grand daughter and that he died of old age.

I can't find out when he was born ( 1807 I guess) or who his parents were so I was hoping for a clue in the death certificate!

hi thanks to wendy and annina for you help and info. as i thought the death cert wouldnt be helpful as it only gives age at death and not the dob. not to worry it was worth a try. thanks to all who helped.
