Why do search credits expire? I've paid for them so why can't I keep them indefinatly? Apart from Genes Renited profitering by implimenting this rather odd rule I can't see why this happens. If I buy say a brick, it doesn't disolve in to dust after a week!

GR aren't the only site that do it.....Find my past just zapped some of my 1911 census credits.

It isn't terribly nice but it's what you sign up for when you buy them so there's not a lot you can do about it ...though I know what you mean xx

What I can do is not sign up for another 6 months! I guess the thing to do is extract all info possible then bail. I really do hate having my hard earned evaporate in to thin air. I could start on about taxation but I want to get some sleep tonight!

I've got "expired credits" staring at me at scotlandspeople, and I've never understood it either. I'd like to be able to use them, but I certainly don't need another $10 worth that I'd have to buy in order to revive the dead ones!

Ed, its best to weigh up whether the info you're searching for, is cheaper by purchasing credits or by a yearly subscription.

A subscription to ancestry & the like is costly. But you can search as much as you like. If your only looking for a few people then its better to buy credits.

But what ever you do, don't buy the GR gold membership.

steve i have just renewed another 6 months gold membership with gr and for me its good value for money. i am researching 3 family trees and do hundreds of lookups and sometimes probably do some repeats. if i was buying credits, i would have spent far more than 34.95. so for me its really worth it. i suppose if you are only doing one or two then its probably cheaper i guess.

I agree with you , i bought some credits some time back ago
and used some but not all , but by the time i went back
they had expired . so dont buy now , i just stick to Ancestry .
