Heh.

I think I figured out the control+ / control- business only when I did it by accident one day, had no idea what I'd done, but had tiny typeface on my screen that I didn't want.

Had to go googling to find out what I'd done and how to undo it!

Janey you're wonderful,I have managed to set things up perfectly for my needs.

It is difficult when you are neither computer or typing competant.

Oh, and thick to boot!!

Uh oh, now I see the problem for anybody who likes a bigger font.

The sizing is now set so that the font size *I* like is the perfect size for the site. Before, the size I liked was one size too small, so I got the useless background design taking up part of the page when the content was shrunk to the size I like.

If you like a bigger font than I do, and you do control+ to get it, the content on the page now occupies more than the space on your monitor, and you have to scroll to the right to see all of the content of posts in threads.

For pity's sake, eh?

Nina - I hadn't decided what to do about the font size change. But when you said that, I experimented.

I like a smallish font so I'm not perpetually scrolling (especially given the clunky scrolling at this site, at least in Firefox, since the last major makeover). But that had left me with the jacquard pattern wasting part of my screen down the sides of the content.

So I hit control+ to increase the font by a size -- and lo, it's back to the size I liked, *but* it also increased the size of the content so now no space on the screen is wasted on background designs! Amazing. A change I like.

Give that a try -- hold down control and hit the + key, and see how you like it. It will only affect this site. And you can immediately reverse it if you don't like it, by holding down control and hitting the - (minus or hyphen) key.

Now what is driving me nuts is the increased frequency of me getting enormous blobby typeface when I click on a thread, which I very much do not want. I have to reload to get the size I do want.

Well, I for one, don't like the new set up, and especially the miniscule print.

I have my comp set up for 150% and now I have difficulty with that!

By the end of yesterday I had started clicking Submit rather than Preview. I lost count of how many times I did it wrong. And I don't know whether it will carry over to today ...

Your neural pathways actually have to be reconfigured!

There are so many things so glaringly wrong with this website's forums, and nothing ever gets done about them. Pointless tinkering is all we get.

Well, it makes the site *look* like it's part of the 21st century, to any prospective buyers. I cant' believe anyone would fall for that, though.

I don't mind the drop down boxes but that preview button is a pain, I have lost count of the times I have pressed it instead of submit. Good job it isn't a delete button!!!

And, have you realised the bookmark facility is not working. But theya re onto that and thank us for our patience while it is fixed (thread on gen).

Forgot about you holiday Grumps, glad you enjoyed it.

Rambling Rose,I know how you feel. We bought our house 6 yrs ago,and as well as new kitchen and bathroom, I have stripped all the paintwork back to the wood, all the wallpaper off, and finally finished last summer.

While spring cleaning this week,it dawned on me that almost all needs a new coat of paint, cos I smoke like a chimney, dirty, filthy habit, why do I persist??
