phoneline/broadband Tax

The Broadband Tax is actually £6 per year per line and has been levied in this manner because it is almost impossible to get out of paying it. As such it is a classic Gordon Brown Stealth Tax, something which he perfected (if 'perfected' is the correct word) as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

As it is a tax, it has been included in the Finance Bill and therefore the likelihood of it being dumped this year is virtually non-existent.

The best we can hope for is that the incoming Tory Government will remove it at the next Budget.

It is Political (I think !)

My understanding is that the Labour Party want to impose the 50p Tax and use the money to bring Broadband to all areas of the country who do not have it -fibre optic I think.

The Conservatives plan is to increase the speed of all the existing Broadband to the international norm and leave the market to provide for those without any Broadband

no but they are working on how to collect the value of your house after youve gone, via some kind of poll tax relief.......

ie dont pay now......we'll collect later.!!

was mooted that a 20 year poll tax " Holiday" could run up a bill of £70,000, PLUS the usual inheritance tax scams etc!!

not much left for your descendants eh?

How many people are sitting in Westminster working out what they can now tax the people on. Is the next tax going to be on the amount of times we visit the toilet?

Dear Compass Bob

Hello

How many more taxes are we all going to have to pay?!

No wonder there was the poll tax riots in the 14th century!
Didn't Wat Tyler lose his bonce for objecting to this tax?

Take care
Best wishes

Subject: Fw: Phone Line Tax - Closes Feb 27 2010 Not a joke!

PHONE TAX - This WILL effect YOU !!!

THIS IS NOT A JOKE: If you agree please register and pass on to as many people as you can. It is legitimate.

Dear All,

If you disagree to the Governments 50p per week Phone Line Tax that is to be become law this year please fill in the form on the link below. You have until 27th February so act fast.
Even if you don't use your land line you will still be taxed, if you have multiple lines going into your property you will be taxed 50p per week for each line. The more people that complain the better chance of having it scrapped.
Pass this on to all your contacts.
Best Regards Carol
More details from petition creator
I request that the Government scraps any plans to add 50p a month tax to phone lines to subsidise further broadband roll out. It is wholly unfair to tax my phone line to pay for someone else's broadband, and it is as simple as that. It is recognised that rural areas do suffer a slower connection and higher costs, but they have fantastic views, clean air and a safer environment - it’s a choice people have to live in the country - and a decision they take. Please see sense, and stop this poll tax - broadband is not a vital service.
