Has the size of the print changed on here , or is it my eyesight. ?

It is smaller.

To bump it back up, hold down the control key and hit the + key.

If you don't like what you see, hold down the control key and hit the - key.

I win on this one -- I like small font, mostly because I hate scrolling down to read things. (Scrolling at this site is all clunky and horribly slow since the last reform, at least in Firefox.) Also, I find it easier to read than the next font size up, which tends to look mashed-up.

But that meant that when I shrank the content to the font size I liked, there was useless background design taking up space on my monitor.

Now, I've increased the font one size, and the content exactly fits my monitor! I win. ;)

If you like a *bigger* font, you lose. Increasing the font size now increases the size of the content, so you have to scroll right to see all of the content in posts and threads.

I was fine the way it was, even though it works better for me now. It's the people who need larger font, to see it properly, who should be the "standard" for the site, I think, and not have the inconvenience of having to scroll left and right whenever they want to read a thread.

I'd be interested in what anybody who does need a larger font thinks about it.

Thanks Janey, I could read it but found it a bit eye straining. Just hit control and + once and it is fine.

I have just changed from 'medium' to 'larger' ... my eyesight is rotten and I did always have it set to larger on another site but the change has actually made me notice how trying it was on here. I will need to scroll a lot so may be tempted to alter it when i am in the mood to read quickly lol ...but this size will suit me ok for reading posts with lots of detail like look up requests :)

It's very strange but when you are on a thread with a deleted post, the info telling you it's been deleted is in a bigger font.

The add button now seems to work opening a box at the bottom of the page and if you type your reply in that, the font is huge.

Christine, my goodness, you're right! The Add button works! And yes, nice big font.

Maybe fewer people on the help boards will be inundating us with PMs there, with the Add button working.

GR home page is all messed up again this morning everything in a list on the left hand side. Also note the change at the bottom of the screen GR is now number two no longer number one.

Why do we have these changes on GR

Because it gives us something to do. Makes it fun to be able to second guess their next move.

Must be working look at the number of people talking, arguing, commenting and trying out different ideas.

Island - it's GR tinkering (exactly the word I used.) It doesn't affect any other website.

AuntyS - that's the problem I referred to with enlarging the font. The page numbers are still there -- they're just not visible.

You have to use the scroll bar at the bottom of your monitor to shift to the right. Then the entire width of the thread and content is visible (and the categories over on the left side aren't visible). And you have to do this for every thread you read.

Is it a Co-in-cidence?

I dont recall doing anything to cause it, BUT
I dont have an ad in the banner box at the top of page OR down the left hand side.....i'm on the .za site but they USED to be there......

Oh heavens. You are so right. All my ads have disappeared completely. Did not even notice there was no flashy, jumpy, colourful garbage. Oh lovely.

Those who use the ad blockers and other web browsers are probably laughing. You don't have this trouble do you??


So. Let's imagine what the next big change might be. The whole page covered in ads and the GR screen is a tiny little box in the top left hand corner. Relax, just doing a hypothetical. You don't really think we will be adless for long.

By the way right now I am on .co.uk instead of the .au version.

Why do they always need to mess about with this site?

The Add link used to send you to the top of the screen, so you could type in a reply. This current one will give the person (especially to newbies) that where they'd clicked on Add. It will insert their reply in between the two postings.

I can see this causing all sorts of problems on TTF etc

Why do they tell us twice, once in white print and once in black on the green band at the bottom about being #2 site? And why do the 2 lines at the bottom have some words overlapping?

It was like that after I held control and + to enlarge the print. Not that it was all that big, and the scrolling was annoying. I went back to what it had been and then went to page>text size>largest to get the print back to what it was originally, but I used to just have it on larger. No need to scroll sideways though. Typing in this bottom 'add' box is about the right size for me and it is almost twice the size of the print on the page. I will have to ask GR if they are going to provide special specs for us.
