Install a WEP key immediately and give your neighbour the key so he can access your Wifi if you still want him to.

Anyone trawling for unsecured Wifi can, with a clever piece of software, track your movements on the net and install a key logger and basically take control of your pc.

Please do this asap.

Sorry to hear you are having neighbour problems. Never having been in that situation, i can't offer advice.

However, from the Connection aspect (unless youhave/had some sort of share the cost agreement) I'd certainly tighten up on your security. We thought ours was protected until one month our usage went from an average of 18GB to 169GB! Unless the Provider's meter had diverted everyone's usage on to us, we can only assume someone in the area had hacked in and downloaded games and iplayer stuff virutally continuously.

We've blocked all IPS addresses apart from our own equipment, which seems to have done the trick.

ANYONE can access your wireless conection if you dont put a lock on it ..........

It works a bit like blue tooth you can pass infomation from unit to unit ..in Libbys case its computer to computer ....via the box u use to plug in your computer and phone line ........

very silly to share the connection between house to house coz even if Libby allows it for the person next door if the signal is good EVERYONE on the planet can use it

The internet thing would bother me.
Does this mean anyone in the area can use your connection??

I dont know how it all works but I know my OH had concerns about this and security etc.

By the sounds of it it is a neigbour you could do without.

Sorry going to be a bit hard here .....

Stop the connection NOW ..I really cant see why you feel the need to give away something free to anyone friend or not ..If he accesses site you wouldnt you could be blamed !!

And secondly we have had this sort of trouble from our neighbours for 10 years and in the end I got a harrassment order against me ...even though they threatened to kill me ......all because we stopped reporting it to the police or keeping a record of their abuse towards us ........

Please keep records and speak to your local bobby on the beat ...ask at the sattion for him to call you ....

Good Luck

Libby Report 25 Feb 2010 07:57

Our next door neighbour is a long term friend who I have recently had a disagreement with. I thought that this would sort itself out in time.

He has now started shouting abuse at me at the top of his voice when he comes in drunk (most nights!!). I have not responed to this as I feel it says more about him than is does about me.

He has always shared our wireless internet connection and continues to do so. This morning I found a note through the door saying "stick your pc and connections". I logged off the pc at about 9;30 last night, connections were ok then and were when I logged back on this morning.

Not sure what to do about this because I don't know if he is accusing me of withdrawing his access, wouldn't do this even if I knew how or if he is just being vindictive. Should I ignore him or just leave things at the moment?
