why do people have children if they dont bother with them ....In some third world countries its custom to have children to look after you in old age or some are had and held in great regard but it seems some in this country have them ...just coz they can

WHY???

It's a pity some go on to have large familes when they cant afford to keep/look after the ones they have.
Or in some places there is little food and water.Asprin between the knees would work wonders.

Don't know Kemp.

Took me years to get mine and both were totally wanted and loved to bits.

Don't understand anyone that doesn't feel the same way so can't answer your question x

The only contraception that is 100% is celibacy and that seems a bit ridiculous to expect of couples who have being together for years and even have a mortgage together but aren't married, for example.

The pill is about 99% reliable IF taken correctly but if you think of the amount of women who take the pill it still leaves a sizeable number of women who will become pregnant. You'd be amazed at the number of people who don't realise that their brand of pill means they have to take it at the same time each day or those who don't realise that if they have a stomach upset, for example, the pill can be rendered ineffective and they need to use a different form of contraception for 7 days afterwards.

If its custom to churn out an endless stream of kids in third world countries to look after their parents in old age, I find that worse than having kids becuse you can in the western world. At least kids born in the western world will get fed & clothed and have a chance of life.

In the third world this endless stream of kids are born into poverty, famine & hardships which no decent human would want to put their kids through.

I'd also like to add. I have friends, and family who are not married who have children.

They had their kids because they wanted them.

In this day & age marriage is for those who want it & if people want to have illigitamate kids its no stigma attatched to it.

The best contraceptives are 1. A Zip.2.A Chastity Belt ,Male /Female. 3.A very large heavy piece of concrete in front of the bedroom door.or 4.A Mrs. Bobbit.**M**.:o))>Ps. and no jumping the queue with housing.

uuuuummmm I agree with you all but if your children are (and they are wanted) why dont some people take notice of their needs as children ...like you say civilization ....but if a child says I want time with you wouldnt that tell you as a mother /father thats your child means ....Iwant time with you ...NOT I want time with you if you can be bovvered!!!!

Before anyone judges too harshly the large families in third world countries...I'd like to say this.

In those countries, there is, and always has been, a high infant mortality rate, due to many things, disease, malnutrition etc. It's just how it's always been. The parents will get old in time, and they want to be sure that at least one of their children survives into adulthood to work and look after them when they are too old to work. They don't have the health facilities out there that we do, to care for the elderly. They have to rely on family to do so, nobody else will.

Education is the key here, but even with education, contraception isn't always available, or if it is, it comes at a cost. Many of these countries have converted to the Catholic faith, (South American particularly), and as we all know, the Catholic church still rules contraception. Having large families is ingrained into the way of life. So I can't find that worse than having kids in the western world 'because we can.'

I don't think we should judge other cultures harshly either Teresa but I always doubt that people have children to provide for their old age whether it's in British history or Third World countries now - I think they just have them cos they have sex and along come the children.

I'm going to go slightly against the grain here. Who are we to judge who should or shouldn't have children. I agree that there are negligent parents in our society - but it's not a new phenomonen (sp). There are people who some would think shouldn't have large families for economic reasons who love their children dearly and there are people who are well able to give financially everything a child could want but who palm them off to nannies which makes me wonder why they bother.
