Have just looked for dates when the uk census was taken - and it says the 1931 census was destroyed by fire... Does this mean the whole of the 1931 census or just parts

Yes it was Mark, during the war, but not due to bombing. I read an article that they were thinking it may have been a fire watcher discarding a lit ciggie...........but no evidence

your right ann ,1931 c was burnt ,1941 was not taken ,so we have a gap from 1921 to 1951 with no census,i pity those who come after us trying to sort it out.

We will have to make sure that we leave a decent paper trail.
During that period too, people moved around the world a lot. So going to be VERY difficult to track some people down.

Are there Census (or other simular) records in Australia and N.Z for the early part of the 20th Centuary?
I am pretty sure that USA and Canada have them.
