Daffs are late this year, due to the cold winter.

Another couple of weeks and they will be out, plenty of snowdrops and crocuses out, so not long to wait.

Very unlikely Puss, Daffs usually flower early to mid March. I might have been crocuses you were walking through?

Or if wild ground, perhaps winter aconites?

Daffs are usually out by St Davids day, at least in the South but according to the experts they are two weeks behind this year.

Ann I find they are usually just coming out by my kids birthdays which are on 6th...but I think we'll be lucky to see them by Mother's Day.

On our local radio news today, Derbyshire, it was said that spring flowering bulbs are two weeks behind. The owners of Hopton Hall, famed in these parts for their snowdrop displays are behind by two weeks.
I personally have bulbs coming up, but no heads as yet.
So there is hope yet, Ladypuss

Because it is Autumn and not Spring :))

Sorry wrong end of the world.

Gail

I had daffodils last year, not very good ones as lack of rain, but had them in August.

During mild winters here in the UK I've seen Snow Drops in early Jan & the 1st Daffs in Mid/late Feb.

But this year, I didn't see the 1st Snow Drops until a couple of weeks ago - mid Feb & now we're in March, they're still flowering. This spring, they're forecasting short but spectacular spring.

This'll probably be good for nesting birds. As they'll have a plentiful supply of grubs for their nestlings. Rather than during mild winters, when spring starts early. But is prolonged, often interrupted short cold spells. Which kills off the early insects, just when the nesting birds need them most.

My daffs are only about 3-5 inches above the ground. Maybe I planted them too deep or too late ?

Hi
I've had daffodls in bloom now for a couple of weeks here in West London. Not a particularly sheltered garden.
They are an early flowering Cornish variety. I planted them last autumn but those planted in previous years seem to be slower to come out.
Certainly the snow and cold weather has set everything back and this year my snowdrops came out after the daffs.
Spring is definitely on it's way.
Take care
Von
Edit Just looked at another thread I had posted and my first daff bloomed on 2nd February this year.
