What is my nan's niece's great grandaughter to me?

A bit complex for me, so happy just to refer to similar tree members as distant cousins!

Hope this is acceptable to you "powers that know"

Formula for working this out:-
share grandparents - 1st cousin
share great grandparents - 2nd cousin
share gg grandparents - 3rd cousin
etc, etc - count the number of g's back to the common ancestor

If the no of g's to reach the common ancestor, differs, then take the lower of the two. Then subtract one from the other to get the degree of removal.

Example,
Person 1 is the gggg grandson of the common ancestor (5 g's)
Person 2 is the gg grandaughter of the common ancestor (3 g's)

so, lower of the two g's makes them 3rd cousins. Take 3 way from 5 to get twice removed.

Therefore Third Cousins, twice removed.

Ie if we shared gt gt gt grandparents we would be fourth cousins ect?

I would say you and the person you have met who share gt. gt. grandparents are 3rd cousins.

I have recently met on here someone who is similar age to me,and we share gt gt grandparents.

What are we to each other please??

you go back to the common ancestor

Your nan's parents
Your nan - sibling - niece's parent
Your parent - first cousin - niece
You - second cousin - nieces's child

Find where you fit in, then count generations down

- second cousin 1x removed - niece's grandchild
- second cousin 2x removed - niece's great grand child

she is your second cousin twice removed

your nan and her niece's parent are siblings

your parent (your nan's child) and the niece are first cousins

you and the niece's child are second cousins

you and the niece's grand-child are second cousins once removed

you and the niece's great-grand child are second cousins twice removed
