My computer is running Windows 2000 Professional.
It had a CD ROM and a DVD read/writer . They were not reading properly but a cleaning disk brought the DVD unit back to life, but not the CD ROM.
So I had the CD ROM replaced by another new DVD reader/writer, as there was only £10 difference in the cost.

Both drives will play a pre-recorded CD or DVD.

Problem is that if I put a blank CD-R disk in either unit the computer tells me there is not a disk in there.
Yet if I put the same disk in another computer it is recognised.

I have tried three different blank disks in each drive, in case the disk was faulty, but with the same result, so I am inclined to think it's a software problem rather than a disk or hardware one.

Any help would be appreciated.
