do you think childcare workers
should be held accountable for how they live their lives
outside of work i do
i think if they are responsible for children
they should be decent people
after all they are role models for the children
they look after

Exctly Tracey, what is acceptable, and in whose eyes?

I wouldn't expect a childcare worker to live like a nun or a monk. I wouldn't expect them not to go out with friends, or even like a drink now and then...as long as that is not in front of the children they are caring for.

Why should they not have a private life away from work. TBH I feel that to make everything they do accountable to their employers is a invasion of privacy. Of course if they are breaking the law then that is a different matter, but having a general 'life' away from the job should not be made accountable.

:)

Yes to an extent , having a private life is fine, but for example the lollipop lady in charge of children crossing the road should not be drunk the night before. The teacher giving lessons on how to say no to drugs, shouldn't be using them. No teacher or anyone working with children should be racist, homophobic, or prejudiced from a religious (or non religious) viewpoint , and certainly NEVER let their personal lifestyle choice impinge on their work in any way.

Who decides someone is decent, Joy?

Uggers Report 8 Mar 2010 17:39

Just read your post, Rose and disagree with you for a change:) I don't see why a lollipop lady shouldn't have been on the lash the night before as long as she's safe to do her job in the morning. I also don't see why a teacher shouldn't be able to teach children the dangers of drugs and use them him/herself. Unsure about you third example though:)

well i recently smelt drink on a child care worker
while she was at work i think thats unacceptable
i then claimed the child was suddenly unwell

and took her home to her mother a good friend

Uggers

Uggers Report 8 Mar 2010 17:42

I agree, Joy - I'd say that was unacceptable.

ah no Uggers, I meant that if she was still under the influence , I ( being an innocent little soul ;) ) do not know how long alchohol would remain in the blood stream enough to affect reaction times?

as to the drugs, I think I stand by that one...basically because i don't think you should really preach what you won't practise?

there is the argument of course that a drug user is the very BEST teacher of why you should say no :)

Sorry edited to remove a stray 'double negative' lol

Uggers Report 8 Mar 2010 17:50

It's debatable, Rose - well I disagree with some medical experts anyway ;)

As to the drugs, I don't see an issue with a teacher who uses recreational drugs socially informing pupils of the dangers of the same. I don't think there's any hypocrisy involved when you're just doing your job - again as long as it doesn't affect it. I believe that parents and other adults in positions of responsibility should take the 'do as I say not as I do' attitude anyway. Parents have sex, swear and drink too much which is all cool but you wouldn't necessarily want your underage kids doing any of them:))

lol Uggers...re 'do as I say not do as I do' , whatever happened to leading by example ? ;))

Uggers

Uggers Report 8 Mar 2010 17:58

Depends entirely on what position you're standing in, who you're saying it to and what you're talking about, Rose lol - I think society would be much better if people went back to remembering that there's a difference between adults and kids:)

LOL , I do like you,

Not being deliberately contrary, honest;)

Rambling

Rambling Report 8 Mar 2010 18:10

as if ;) in any case i could argue myself back to the opposite position without assistance lol and often do ...I think it's the Libra rising? with the scales tipping one way and then back the other.

I wouldn't, personally, want to be teaching something that was totally at odds with what I believed though...I would find that too difficult...for eg if I worked in a 'religious' school and had to toe the line on various aspects. Not that it is ever going to happen lol.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 8 Mar 2010 18:23

-private life is just that private and confidential....I dont discuss my private life with those I have close contact with.

any worker who breaches their contract while doing their work needs to be reported for everyones sake.

JoyBoroAngel Report 8 Mar 2010 19:03

i am all for people having fun and having a private life

but not if it affects their work and kids are involved
