I have been spat at this morning !!!!!!

GlitterBaby Report 11 Mar 2010 11:56

I have just been spat at because of my dogs and the fact that I stood up for myself.

Walking down a lane with my two dogs on their extending leads when a man on a bicycle comes towards us. Put the dogs on short lead. I usually do not give way to bicycles on paths. Suzy does not like bicycles so she barked as he went past.

He stopped and shouted abuse at me and then moaned about my dogs shitting on the path. Well I had two bags of dog poo in my hand so showed it him. He spat at me. That got me a bit mad so I shouted at him. He tried to claim that one of the dogs was going to bite him. At one time he took his hat off and swung it across my face. Threatened to take a knife out of his pocket and kill my dogs. Swung his leg towards my dogs as a threat to kick them. Also made his hand into a fist as if to hit me.

By now he has spat at me at least 5 times.

Started then on verbal abuse. Calling me southern scum and telling me to go back where I come from – that is the polite version of what was actually said. Got told he was born in this town. So what !!

Usual comment from a man about he would not hit a woman unless they hit him. I told him straight that if he threatened me or my dogs I would defend myself.

More spit and threatened that the next one would be “green”.

At one time he took off his rucksack and made as if he was going to attack me.

The worst thing is that he was not a youngster but a similar age to me - mid 50's

Maureen

I walked home a little bit upset. Could not wait to wash my face.

There was no way I was going to make the first move. If he did then I would have hit him back.

I hope you're ok GB.

Thats disgraceful behaviour from a bloke.
As McAnne said, get on the phone & call the police. He shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

When you spit on anyone it is classed as assault. Report it to the police now please.

Calmed down a bit now.

Not sure what the Police can do about it.

There was a bloke up on a roof that probably heard it all.

It is an assault... he spat at you... he threatened you with a knife, he made as if to hit and kick you... and he waved his hat at you... but more than anything, he spat at you.

I would let the police know that you were worried about TB, Aids and Hepatitis..... doesn't matter if you are or not, and the risk from Aids is virtually non existant.... but TB is all too real.

He was cycling on a footpath.

And he is local.

I bet you any money he is known to them, has previous form, and they may just be waiting for that extra little something to get him.

My father had something similar a little while ago, with a car shunting scam... he so wishes now that he had reported it!!

Even if the police can't do anything now... if this man carries on doing it, one day they will have enough to charge him.

Allow him to get away with it, and you will be condoning his behaviour... for your own peace of mind, PLEASE report him.

Love and (((((hugs))))

Oh my goodness!

I really hope that you're OK
Please be careful there are some very nasty people about not just the young - perhaps you shouldn't walk your dogs alone or take a different route for the next few days. I know it may seem like 'he’s won' but you have to think of your own safety and that of your dogs

I'd definitely report it to the police.
Did you save any split - i.e. put it in a clean food bag. I know the police use bags to collect split connected with assaults - which is what this was.

It sounds like it’s a regular walk - have you seen this person in the area before?

You shall be in my thoughts

Had to go out and drop off some paperwork so decided to call in at the Police Station on the way back.

Front door closed with a notice to use the intercom. Finally found the button and pushed it. Heard it ringing. Answered by the call centre and not the local station. Said I wanted to report an incident.

"What sort of incident"

Just said that I and my dogs were threatened this morning.

"phone in and get an appointment"

What a waste of time.

I live on my own so do work the dogs alone. Do vary my route from day to day.

AnninGlos Report 11 Mar 2010 15:23

I would still do that though Mauree, phone in and get an appointment, it may seem trivial in retrospect but it is not, who knows what he is getting away with, the next victim could be a young girl or boy, he sounds unpredictable.

Oh poor you what a pig of a man. That was well out of order.
You should report it. Do you know him?

I must admit I dont like these long leads on pavements/paths when anyone is passing whether its on foot, bike or with a pram. They could easily knock over a pram.
Even driving past a dog on a long lead they can still go out in front of you.

GB please do report this man. If you don't then others may be victims. The longer he gets away with abusive behaviour the worse he will get.

I think you did will restraining yourself, I would certainly have tipped the bag of poo on him. Mind I hate to say but I might have bit him dunno about my mutts lol

Sorry to hear about your assault Glitter, and thats is what is was, totally digusting behaviour. Please dont dismiss it and do not allow some obnoxious man get away with it. As some one said he is proberly known to the police already and any information you give them will hopefully stop him from doing this again.
Best Wishes Sarah

GB Do ring in and report this, apart from the assault by spitting on you he shouldn't be carrying a knife, they stop and search youngsters and nick them for carrying knives so no different for a 50 odd year old man. Write everything down as soon as you can so you don't forget the way it happened, and if you don't get any response from the local police, surely there is a larger Police hq nearby who would take it seriously.
If not contact your local paper and talk to them, see if they know anything about this local nutter!
