Wishing you all a swift recovery.

It used to be an old wive's tale that gout was caused by an excessive consumption of port wine: so lay off the bottle !

http://www.naturalhealthtechniques.com/SpecificDiseases/gout1.htm

This gives a list of foods to avoid while having an attack. My OH has had one attack after a holiday where we ate lots of fresh seafood. The doctor told us that seafood is a no-no if you are prone to gout.

Hi Joyce, as I said in my text, I thought it sounded like gout when you told me the other day. K had it but has had no further problems, his doc told him there is no medication to get rid of it, just painkillers and rest and check your diet, but for the life of me I can't recall what not to eat. I am sure you will find out by googling.

take care and will catch up with you soon,

love and hugs

joyce
Some years ago I had the same.couldn't believe how painful, and as Ann said, couldn't even bear a sheet over me.Since then I take alopurinol tablets on prescription 3 times a day and it does keep it at bay thank goodness.
I remember I couldn't get even a big shoe on and went to the docs with some old slippers on with the toe cut out...how embarassing!!
Do hope they soon get it sorted.Must say after starting the treatment it didn't take long to ease....and it's not to do with over indulging in alcohol as I very rarely drink.!

I had gout about 30 years ago in the toe next to the big one. It came on quite quickly within a few hours of tripping. It was agony by the next morning and I was convinced it was dislocated it was so painful. I was so slow getting to the doctor's room, he came looking for me, could barely stand putting my foot down. He gave me a prescription and it took a week to get better. I couldn't even stand the weight of just a sheet on it in bed, had to sleep in a chair with it on a stool.

The doctor told me some people may just get 1 attack, but some get more. I was lucky and have never had it since then thank goodness.

Hope the pain soon goes, I sympathise as I know how bad it can be.

At least you know what it is Joyce. did the doctor give you a prescription for it. I did wonder if that is what it was when you said about your toe. Hope it eases soon.

MY OH suffered with this for the first time a few weeks ago........you need anti infammatries such as Ibrupofen, or your Dr. may be able to give you something a little stronger, and rest it...it will be better in a few days, but i think once you`ve had Gout, you are more prone to it again...

Good luck, hope you manage to get some sleep
