Sorry for the delay in reading the replies to my message. I have just recd. a message from the DVLA that I do not need to renew it as they took into consideration that they had issued it just 2 months prior to THAT, birthday. He who thinks he should be obeyed...yeh....was in a right flurry thinking that I would not be insured if I did not have a current licence.

My OH has to renew his licence evry three years as he is diabetic and 74. You may find that you need a sight test, though that may be only for diabetics. If you have a licence with time on it, dont worry about it, you are entitled to use it unless they contact you.

I can't share the experience Kathlyn but I will join you in a brandy - purely out of sympathy;)

Have a look at the expiry date before you get too concerned.

If you have a recent photo version, you *might* be able to renew through the DVLA site. Worth a try anyway.

I consider myself to be a normal inteligent person. I have visited many countries and without knowing the language, have managed to more than "get by".

Listening to the radio I understand that when one is 70 (I a`m really 27!!) one has to apply for your driving licence top be renewed. My licence was renewed just two months prior to that momentous birthday, so I have just spent 5 mins listening to a recording telling what one has to do to renew ones licence......but nothing about being over 70...and this message was after pressing 5 different, "press one, Press two etc. etc.

Degree in nuclear physics is needed to understand that lot. Well the sun is almost over the yard arm so a stiff G&T may pick me up.
