TV cooking: Are you a good cook?

I would much rather iron than cook....so that tells you something!

I look at the meals made by the chefs on tv with all the fancy presentation and whathave you.....and they wouldn't feed a fly!

I certainly can't imagine putting something like that in front of my son after he has had a long, hard day at work. I stick to simple, well tried recipes - lots of veg etc. and he can clear a plate before I've had time to draw breath!

One problem I do find, is that both my husband and my daughter are allergic to cheese because of migraines and that is really quite limiting......no pizza, cheese on toast, or even cheese sandwiches.

You have got a point there Elizabeth. I think the cookery programmes are just meant to entertain not to educate which is a pity. You have spotted a niche in the programmes, maybe you should suggest they do something about it!

Dear Ann in Glos

Hello

A lot of families are finding things very difficult and don't have the money to spend on lots of food.

Who can afford all the ingredients?

None of the TV cooks show how to make simple and nourishing meals.

Take care
Best wishes

What I find hard to comprehend is when the contestants on Masterchef are given a load of ingredients (some of which are unusual things) and they come up with a meal! It would take me all the time to work out what to cook.

Dear Magnolia and Sharron

Hello

I love the replies.

You have heard of 'girl power', now its 'cooks power'.

Being fair, I have introduced the youngsters to the magical wonders of the washing machine and the tumble dryer and how to use them!

I can't expect them to cope with actually cooking a small meal or even taking the wrapping of convenience food......but we shall see!!

Take care
Best wishes

I always give three choices at every meal, what I've cooked,do it yourself or go without.
AND you will pretend to enjoy it!

Dear Sharron, George and Magnolia

Hello

I agree.....food tastes better when someone else makes it!!

I have a few basic meals I do and that is about it!

I think it's hard to get enthusiastic about cooking when household members disagree on the meal and you get home tired and very hungry.

Take care
Very best wishes

Well,I am a chucker and dolloper.I will probably follow a recipe to the letter the first time but after that I tend to season it well with a lot of slap and dash.

Dear All

Hello

Have you noticed that a lot of these TV cookery programmes use so many ingredients for just one meal?

Do you stick to a few meals that you can make well or do you like more complicated receipes to feed your household?

Is cooking a chore or enjoyable?

Take care all
Very best wishes
