Just for my mum..... who always said, "when I die, don't mope about go out and 'celebrate' with tea and a nice cream cake " :))

Mother, my friend, we laughed so much
As we trawled the charity shops for treats
On days off we would talk and lunch
And find secret ways through unknown streets.
We sang off key and danced in step
Shared moments of joy and sorrow
I never thought then of the Mother’s Day eve
When there would be no ‘tomorrow‘.

I cannot lay flowers, nor kneel where you lay…
For your ashes are in some ones garden,
But I know you would laugh at that ‘turn’ of this poem
So I don’t need to ask for your pardon.
The one thing you gave me as well as your love
Was your rather ‘black’ sense of fun
To love, laugh and cry, sometimes all at once
and catch raindrops as well as the sun.

You were always the one to take life by the throat
And shake it until it paid out
To look round each corner in search of a star
to make something good come from nowt.
Your presence is felt in so many ways
From the time honoured phrases you said
To the grandson who is undoubtedly ‘yours’
From the way he eats chocolate in bed.

You’re as loved as you were on this Mothers Day,
Although it’s twelve years from your last
And we strive to look forward just as you did
And not, too much, to dwell in the past.
So we will do as you did and celebrate life
And give just as much as we take.
Though I can’t hold you close or give you a card
I’ll enjoy eating your share of cake :)))

Amanda, Maggie...I didn't want to put it on Lynda's thread because it seems a bit 'irreverant' lol and I wouldn't want to offend anyone ...but it is how she was :))

That was lovely Rose .A lot of those words would have applied to my Mum too.
She was quite a character ,especially in the last few years of her life with Dementia.She always loved Mothers day even when I couldn't get to see her.She loved the bouquet of flowers,and always described them over the phone.
I shall start getting weepy in a mo,so shall say no more.
