sorry for delay, been working. I have a note of a baptism for john allen of john and elizabeth allen in 1719 in byfield but have not been able to link it forward. also looking for my note to confirm a marriage @ 1709 with a John Allen from Priors Marston.

Just to clarify, the 1851 census entry (found by CarolB) confirms John's birthplace as Byfield in c1781.

Do you have John's baptism entry at Byfield (which should give the names of both his parents)?

There are two pre-1781 marriages for a Charles ALLEN on the Northamptonshire Marriage Index (1700-1837):

In 1771 at Milton Malsor (approx. 15 miles from Byfield)
In 1776 at Islip (approx. 35 miles from Byfield)

Additionally, there's also a possible one in Barford St. Michael in 1775 (groom from Deddington). Both these parishes are in Oxfordshire, approx. 20 miles from Byfield. You should also consider that John's parents may have come from Warwickshire (Byfield is approx. 10 miles from that county boundary).

If you can confirm the mother's name, then this may match with one of the above marriages. (If it's of any help, I have access to the Byfield parish registers at my local library.)

My 6 x gt grandfather married in Preston Bissett Buckinghamshire in 1740 ...... we can trace his wife back to about 1540, but he just appeared from nowhere


and there's been about 50 people trying to find him for many years

No, I don't think they can have any connection to my Allens. Byefield is a little too far from derbyshire. Good luck with them, researching Allens in that area is almost as bad as Smiths.

There are loads of Allen families in Derbyshire and on the Northants border in the 1800s, any specific names?

Can anybody help @ the 1800's the Allens appeared in Byfield Northants. Can anybody point me in the right direction as where they may have come from.
