The last 2 holidays we have had in the UK were Dorset and Suffolk.Both were lovely.I liked Dorset best and OH liked Suffolk.Both were by the sea which is what I liked as I really miss the sea .We live right in the middle of the country,but I grew up in Devon 5 minutes walk from the beach.We normally holiday abroad ,either Italy or France but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed holidaying here .It made me realise what a lovely country we live in.

We are looking forward to our holiday in Burton Bradstock in June. We walk from there to west bay. Lovely fish and chips in West bay.

I love the west country, esp Dorset. We have a little getaway place in a small village called Eype, just 10 mins from Bridport, we love it. One very small road into the village and the same road out...so be prepared to pull over............

One pub, and a small walk down to the pebble beach and Westbay isnt too far away either...........

Gwynedd is so beautiful I ended up living there for several years.

Cumbria and Dorset are lovely too.

Thanks for replying please keep them coming. Sorry I didnt get back, daughter sprung a surprise by saying we have a flat to look at and then moved out within 3days.

Wev'e been all down the east coast of devon and cornwall
and up the west side as well, we had a motorhome at the time,
then on another occasion we went to Looe , mousehole ,Lost withiel,
and Liskeard.etc Have been to Dorchester .and Minehead also Whitburn nr/ Sunderland Durham, .Newcastle upon tyne, we also used to go to Lowestoft for our hols and Great Yarmouth oh been to Aberdeen, Sterling as well on one occasion lolol and have to say that we enjoyed every minute of it , we love travelling but cant do it so much now .. which is a shame ...

i would love to go to the Lakes and also Northumberland ..

How about Derbyshire,beautiful countryside,and places like Chatsworth House,Hardwick Hall ,Haddon Hall the Crooked Spire in Chesterfield,also a wonderful market there.

Everywhere steeped in history such as the Plague village Eyam which remains unchanged even to this day.

I could go on forever, but then I'm biased because it is mine.

Recently we have holidayed mostly in the Canaries except for at least one week a year in the Lake District which we love.
We have visited Torquay (Torbay) for lots of short breaks and one whole week, always plenty to do there expecially if you like walking.
In the 60s/70s we spent many weeks in Buckfast devon and toured out all round Devon (OH's home county)
Had a week last year in Exmouth We also spent at least two weeks a year from the late 60s to the late 70s in Cornwall.
Have been on holiday to North Wales, South Wales, love Laugharne area, Northumberland, Fife.
Had a short break in Glasgow, loved it.
Had 2 separate weeks on Dorset near Bridport and having another one this year.
Had a short break near Norwich in the 80s staying with friends. Toured round most of Norfolk when we lived in Bedfordshire, it was in reach for days out.
Had a long weekend in canterbury and would like to go back to Kent.
As a child spent a week in the Isle of Wight, also used to go there for day trips and would like to go back.
Bognor, Brighton, Bournemouth, swanage, New Forest all used to be within reach for days out when I was young

I have never been to Ireland and would like to go sometime.

I've been to Butlins, Skegness, Bognor years ago.
Blackpool a few weekends.

Been camping in Dumfries, Lossiemouth, Pitlochry, Blair Athol,St Andrews, Mackrahaniish(sp). Last year we were at Gareloch and that was lovey.

Amsterdam for a few days last year, nice to see and very expensive, didnt like avoiding the hundreds of bikes lol.

Going to Lanzarote this year and hopefully a bit of camping in Scotland.

I went to Newbiggin by the Sea too, that was nice.

Robin hoods bay is nice if you want a quiet holiday
Bridlingtons nice also Whitby and Scarborough

I did go to Hull for a week
it was the longest week of my life

When I was a child, my dad loved to tour Scotland, I remember two holidays there, one touring, and taking chances on bed and breakfast, for two weeks, and the other, camping in Pitlochry, where it rained the entire time and we cut our holiday short, because of the weather. But it was sooo beautiful

Wales is a favourite place, ever since I first went there on a girl guide camp for a week in Nant Gwynant, Snowdonia. I fell in love with the place there and then. Been back there a few times. Also spent a couple of weeks in Lydstep Bay near Tenby, where I realised I was pregnant with my daughter.

The new forest has seen us spending many happy holidays there, mostly because my grandparents lived there, and in fact, I still consider it my second home, where I did much of my growing up. I haven't been down there in many years now though.

Hemsby in Norfolk has lovely beaches, well worth a visit on the better summer days.

There is so much more to see in the UK...I've never been to Cornwall or the Lake District, and they are a must for me.

Everyone moans about the weather, but if we don't expect lots of sunshine, and go prepared for four seasons in one day, which can and does happen, you can still have a brilliant time on UK holidays. So what if it rains, it's only water. The worst that'll happen (bar flash floods during heavy storms) is that you'll get a bit wet. Rain doesn't mean stay indoors.

I was 'over there' in 1997 touring around in a camper van with my sister and her husband. Yes, Liz, we visited Norfolk. Went to Grimes Graves which I think was in Norfolk.

We had 5 or 6 weeks and it wasnt enough to do everything on my sisters list. She had done a lot of research before we went. We saw lots of old ruins and bridges of all kinds including clapper bridges and the transporter bridge. Also Hadrians wall and Tintagel. Like Tony I would dearly love to return (any offers to take me Tony?) as I would love to meet all my friends and relatives I have found on GR, not to mention visiting places of family interest that I didnt know about or had no time to visit last time.

It all depends on what a person is interested in. Old history, or modern cities? Walking or the night life?

Next trip is Sussex, as i just found out the 2xgreat grandad ran the "Mitre Tavern" in Brighton...1840s Also, Durham and the North
Will do Suffolk as well, cos i found some relos there too.

I have had a couple of nice holidays in Llanelli, in S. Wales, catching up with a distant relative and visiting some of the sights, loved the Gower peninsula which could be seen from our holiday apartment, a penthouse on the second visit at Millenium Quay which was literally yards from the sea and the sand/mud flats. I loved Pembrey Park (Cefyn Sidan) and would be happy to go back there again.

I love the Norfolk Coast too, all within up to 40 miles from here, and also Sussex and Cornwall too.

Last May/June we spent a long weekend in Liverpool, we were very lucky with the weather so it made it all the more enjoyable, but a very interesting place and somewhere I would love to explore more together with the surrounding area. I also fell in love with Edinburgh and Glasgow on my first visit and would be happy to make a third trip there for more than a week this time.

And what was wrong with Norfolk and Suffolk may I ask lol? We have the Norfolk Broads, and some old cobbled streets and wonderful coastal places to visit, put them on your list for next time Tony.

Holidayed in the U.K in 2004 ( first ever trip to U.K ) and again in 2005 from Aussie.

After landing at Heathrowe, we caught a bus to Reading, then a train to Truro ( Cornwall ) Hired a car, and drove to St. Agnes and St.Ives.( Visted many places in Cornwall ) Then drove to Gloucestershire ( Cotswolds ) then to Cardiff ( Wales ) caught plane to Dublin ( hired a car ) drove to Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Killkenny, Wexford, Wicklow ( caught Ferry from Dun laoghaie to Holyhead - Wales )
Hired car, then drove to Cheshire, Manchester ( Bolton ) then to Yorkshire ( York ) then down the M1 cutting across to Cambridge, and down to Essex ( Romford ) then to Windsor, and eventually Heathrow.

2nd trip was London to Scotland ( Edinburgh ) then the Highlands ( Perth, Fort William, Inverness, Skye, back to Fort William ) then Clencoe to Stirling, back to Edinburgh.
Plane to Paris, then back to London, and home to Aussie.

Loved every minute of it,( History ) and saw things we only ever heard about as kids in School in Oz ....re: England.


Would jump on a plane to-morrow if the offer was there, and see the many places we missed.
