Hi RR This advert has been on the past couple of weeks, and I wonder
"WHAT"?
He must've had either a very large family to connect with, or someone from the 17th C is still alive lololol

Is that the ad where the chap was supposed to have found a couple of pirates?

What a load of rubbish the ad is. Talk about Who do you think you are NOT!

I suppose the only way a newbie could trace back to the 17th century in 2hrs would as follows.

1, Creates a mini tree, of parents & grand parents. (20mins)

2, Does a trees search & finds few a possibles of grand parent Joe Bloggs (5mins)

3, PMs the tree holders for permission to view. Just sends the GRs default "Can I view your tree" message (5mins)

4, One of the tree holders just happens to be on GR at the time & sees his request. (1min)

5, This tree holder without querying the possible link, opening his tree to him. (1min)

6, The newbie opens the tree. Lo & behold immediately finds his grandfather & ancestors, going back to 1653. (2mins)

7, Without checking & validating the information, he copies the direct line to 1653 into his tree. (36mins)

Note this only comes to 70 mins. The other 50mins he 1st spent reading T & Cs. lol

He then sits back & says....................... "Genealogy, how hard can it be?"

:o))

Oh, you mean they didn't also add......"in just a couple of hours" LOL

I have managed to get back to 1693 on the Scottish side of mine.......but that's because it's Scottish lol.

On the English side I've only managed to get back to 1790 or thereabouts. LOL.

That's the advertising equivalent of poetic license!!! I reckon we should all contact the advertising standards agency and ask them to get GR to produce the evidence...lol
