Digging through reams of census records I discovered that my GGGG Grandfather was a Commodore for the East India Trading Company.

Before he set sail on the Essex Indiaman to Europe - he wrote his will in 1802.

I was shocked to see that he left some of his money to his "old and faithful servant whom I have brought up from his childhood."

I felt quite ashamed to be connected to someone like this but now I have had time to reflect on it I appreciate that it was simply a way of life at the timein 1802 ............ much as I deplore it.

Are there any records for slave 'masters' or slavery records relating to the East India Trading Company in existance?

I dunno about being ashamed .makes them easier to find I do have the odd poacher in my lot who just happened to be police.

With my names there is a very good chance I have 'family' who were hanged for high treason.
Not worried about it but does sound likely *sighs*
