God my husband fits this bill. He collects everything, and I mean everything now has my grandchildren doing it, ie picks up elastic bands that postman throw in road. Seriously say I can't wait till he dies so I can get a skip (actually 6 so I can get rid of the rubbish he has collectted over last 44 yrs.) love him really.Carol

My Mum had a button drawer in her old Singer treadle sewing machine, it had 4 drawers and all sorts of treasures including the army buttons from my Dad's greatcoat and buttons from my Grandad's naval uniform and later coastguards uniform......plus palmtree buttons made out of coconut shell, old buckles, coins.....and Dad's army insignia .....

....they moved away and the buttons that I played with in childhood went to the dump I found out later.......what I am collecting now is old bits of costume jewellery with coloured stones and my collection of charity badges......you know, the sort, ones for kidney transplants, heart foundation, cancer etc......got loads of those...... and hope the kids or maybe Grandkids can see some reason not to throw them away.....

Actually I don't think I collect stuff, ...more it just ends up here.
Anything vaguely 'useful' is kept for future use.

We seem to be able to supply all manner of random items needed for props for school plays etc.
Last Christmas a walking stick suitable for someone of about 7ft 6 inches ( I kid you not ) came in useful as a crook for 'Joseph' to plod along with to Bethlehem....Where did that come from, ...no idea !

Managed to persuade son to take away his helicopter blade, that once was perched over his bedroom window.

I mean, ...every home should have one of those.

I have a vast array of old books - I particularly like the 'Religious Tract Society' books, specifically aimed at 'the poor', they were cheap to buy and had a strong moral tale to tell. They also never had dust jackets to lose, but had very 'chocolate box' pictures on them.

However, my favourite collection is of 'naff' religious icons. Any religion, the naffer (and cheaper) the better!
I have a rather nice Italian head of Jesus in black resin - so why was it felt necessary to add a gold glitter beard and blue glitter 'halo'?

I have a postcard (Italian again) - one of those ones that change as you move it. The picure is of Jesus on the cross. Turn it one way, his eyes are closed, the other they're open!! Yay what joy!!!

From Portugal, I have (amongst other things) a glow in the dark Fatima (Mary)!!!!
Also have a Jesus clock, a mary 'snow scene' - except the water has evaporated (how cheap was that!! LOL), thimbles, Hindu puppets, aimed at children but they are very scary and when the heads are pulled off (or fall off) they have lovely sharp metal spikes!!

I have about 30 items in all. However, the one I 'slipped' on was before I started collecting.
My sister & BIL, over 30 years ago bought a semi derelict 2 roomed house (more like Bothy) in Eire. It had dirt floors, no water and no electricity - save for the one plug that had a light up figurine of Jesus on the cross plugged into it. An electician said he had no idea where the supply was coming from - but they were lucky they'd never turned the figurine on as the plug would have caught fire!!

The thing that started me off, was whilst in Portugal. There was a large (over a foot high) very expensive Capo di Monte figurine of a fat monk. The monk had a cloth habit on, with a large gold Tassle. I had my daughter with me (aged 6). A sign by the figurine invited one to pull the tassle - I did - the habit opened like curtains and there for all to see was an erect 'member'!!!
I had to rapidly distract my daughter!

I started collecting the gun-metal coloured Prinknash pottery, ...but instructed the children that it was only collectable if it was from charity shop, boot fair or the like.
I decided I didn't really have room, so stopped collecting, but then I saw a medium size vase in a charity shop, ...but didn't give in, ..then decided I DID want it...but of course it had gone next time I was in town.
...would have looked lovely filled with daffs. too.........

I look out for small stray pieces of Ewenny pottery in local charity shops. , just because it was made near where Mum grew up and we went on holiday every year to see my grandmother.
