I think my OH would say I collect books because I have shelves of them!

I actually collect (although not bought any for a while) buttonhooks, mainly in silver.

I also collect three wise monkeys (have 10 sets and one of three wise pigs (daur I L's sense of humour!)

I collect Ainsley china (cottage garden only)

I have a collection from way back of first day covers

I have a small collection of Guiseppe Armani figures (small because I can't afford them any more) I have about 8. And a smaller collection of R Doulton ladies.

wmsl, Janey..... brothers!! Everthing has to have a purpose, for them... aesthetics mean nothing. I have three brothers.... so I am an expert... I also have two sons and an OH.... OH is ok... he does eventually *see* and is a collector himself... but of different *stuff* so he understands a little...... but the sons are very like their uncles, lol

Sheila, it sounds lovely.... I have a large dish from the Poole pottery... it looks like it is either a limited edition, or it has the style number under the glaze... I love it but everyone else hates it... I also have two cactus vases... don't ask.... but they will be worth a fortune one day, mark my words!

Stray, a friend of mine used to collect frogs and pigs, years ago.... wonder if she still does?

Catie, I have a little coal mouse that my younger son bought for me on his first ever school trip... he was just coming up to 6, and he is 36 this year... I wouldn't part with it for the world!

Cat... me too, me too.... my family are always going on about my dodgy internet friends, lolol... mind, they have met Supercrutch, so you can understand why ;¬)))

I also collect, screws, nails, picture hooks....... anything that looks as though it might be useful, even if I haven't a clue what it is supposed to do.... or if it has died ages ago.... I have 4 dead irons in my garage..... they have been dead for years.

I might need them for spares though.

And I shall carry on collecting e-mail addresses until I get *THE ONE* lol

I have a small collection of 'Torquay' pottery, also known as Motto Ware. It's brown and cream decorated with simple patterns, and mottos or place names. I haven't bought any pieces for ages - it's not very expensive and I quite like its homespun charm!

I collect mice - but not real ones lol
Wouldn't like to say how many I have.....but there are lots of them :)
My favourites are a family group made out of china. Mum is wearing a long dress which is covered by an apron and is carrying a rolling pin. Holding on to her dress are three youngsters - very cute. Her husband is wearing a very nice pair of specs and reading a newspaper :)
My collection started when I was 16 and my boyfriend at that time presented me with a very cute little mouse carved out of wood. The collection grew from then lol I have some very 'unusual' ones - other people may think them 'daft' - but who cares lol

Hello!

(Yes, I'm actually still sick - unbelieveable. Finally went to the clinic when it just wouldn't go away and it had got yuckier in various ways, like they tell you you should. Diagnosis: I have a cold. Which I hope Annoying Nurse Practitioner now has too.)

My mum and I used to collect insulators. What are insulators ...

They're the pretty coloured glass things that used to sit on electrical poles and ... I dunno, stop the electricity from going nuts. Around here, when you go for a drive in the country, you can still see them sometimes, or you could last time I thought to look.

Here: http://glassian.org/insulator.html
Ours look like the two bottom pictures, threaded and threadless.

So a few years ago at my parents' old house we were all standing around in the kitchen. The window was one of those horizontal-sliding aluminum jobbies -- double glazed of course, this is Canada. Between the outer and inner mirrors [edit - mirrors? what's that? I meant *sliders*], my mum had lined up a bunch of the blue and green and clear glass knobby insulator things, to catch the light. My brother looked at them and asked what they were.

So my mum and I, scientific whizzes that we are, mumbled about electrical poles and wires and glass being an electrical insulating material.

That's fine, said my brother.

So how do they keep the house warm?

....... "insulators" ........
