Sandra, you still have to pay for the residential part of a nursing home, You also pay for the nursing care, but that gets refunded by the council on a monthly basis. |

Nursing and Care homes are only 'free' in England if the resident has very little in the way of savings or income, with a sliding scale currently starting at less than something like £20,000. |

another question for you. why do people who work all of their life and pay their taxes and obey the law and in some cases fight for their country.. then get old and have to sell their home to pay for their care in a residential setting when... prisoners in jail who break the law often don't pay their taxes and rip off the system get to stay for free in jail with free heat, light, tv, food etc. then when they get out of jail are able to live off their ill gotten gains without having to pay a penny back to the government?? |

you should all do what my parents did if they are likely to end up in a home - have them sign their home over to children - obviously there has to be supreme trust here - then they don't have to sell their house that they both worked for all their lives. My parents signed their house over to my sister and I. Dad died first and eventually Mum had to go into residential care so we then sold the house for her and the money was hers for whatever she wanted - this has to be done well in advance though - seven years before I believe |
