I've always wanted one...but I understand they are difficult to cook with at first?

I just entered a comp to win one...*fingers crossed*...got a feeling I may just win something worthwhile this time...for a change lol xx

Loved ours where we used to live years ago

Only problem was it was our only source of hot water and cooking, so it was running all summer too....PHEW!!!!

not so good then in the summer lol...lovely in the winter though ...especially as i spend three quarters of my life in the kitchen cooking and tapping away on my laptop xx

Hi

Got an Esse,it does the heating and cooking. Also have an electric cooker as her indoors(should be cage) moans that it smokes too much,(like she doesn't).


Great to keep the kettle on the boil,and easy to use once you get the hang of it, although not to green as I have just got through 4 tons of wood this winter.

I believe cos they are so heavy you need a very substantial floor to take the weight ,Not suitable for some AND they need to be run all year if used for heating water etc

Wood's fine DL, even if it does release carbons, because it's renewable. It's the coal ones that are not so green. lol

We had an old bread oven next to ours, didn't know that until the back boiler sprung a leak and they had to knock a hole in the wall to get at it.

I had a coal AGA years ago - it was brilliant for stews , roasts, jam and OH used to bake bread in it too. The only fault I found with it was that I tended to forget I'd put a rice pudding in for after the roast on Sunday - I'd find it on a Monday .........
We also had a calor gas cooker - had it before we moved into the house (a tied cottage) so didn't want to get rid of it in case we mved again - but rarely used it.

Don't modern Aga's run off oil or gas - so they dont have to be on all the time? Friend has a new one - and his is oil powered.
He can use it like a conventional cooker, and it's much cleaner.
