I believe cos they are so heavy you need a very substantial floor to take the weight ,Not suitable for some AND they need to be run all year if used for heating water etc |

I had a coal AGA years ago - it was brilliant for stews , roasts, jam and OH used to bake bread in it too. The only fault I found with it was that I tended to forget I'd put a rice pudding in for after the roast on Sunday - I'd find it on a Monday ......... |
